Lilac Point

Everything involving getting /giving affection, playing with his buddy Sammy & "girlfriend" Phai-lin, grooming cats and humans, roll around on shelves and turn his head upside down

Not crazy about some strange cats, and now that he's an adult he's decided he doesn't want Sammy bossing him around a but he is generally a happy boy & even enjoys himself at the vet, jumping on her shoulder and sitting there purring.

Favorite Toy:
A certain kind of wand toy with a furry part and a bunch of crinkly ribbons. then any other wand toys, then toy mice and balls, plastic rings from milk and juice cartons, wine corks....isn't everything a toy?

Favorite Nap Spot:
wherever one of his cat or human friends is napping

Favorite Food:
Nature's Variety Instinct raw venison

He is EXTREMELY skilled at looking endearing and appealing to get even MORE attention. Chatri walks on leash ( maybe that is special for a cat). And Chatri wants me to write that he is a very skilled Doctor.

Arrival Story:
I decided my 2 year old cat Sammy needed a young, energetic little "brother" as a playmate. Sam was great friends with my elderly cat Louis but Louis just didn't appreciate Sammy's attempts at playing rough, and Sammy had soon figured out it was best not to annoy King Louis who was old and had health problems but still very strong and way bigger. So Sammy needed a youngster that would be energetic and playful and likely to stay that way like Sammy himself. I wanted to get another Siamese of the original, non-extreme "foreign" body type, now recognized by TICA as their own breed called Thai. ( Siam is now Thailand.) and maybe show him as I did Sammy, to help promote the breed. I had met Chatri's breeder at a couple cat shows, and I got in touch with her about getting a kitten from her pretty seal point queen Daphne. So over a while I got pictures and updates on the kittens and we decided I sould get this little lilac point boy who even at a very young age seemed like he was totally posing for the camera, and enjoyed pouncing and wrestling with his grown-up cat 'uncle' Sebastian. So the "Monster" (as he was jokingly known at the time, for being bigger than his littermates) came to his new home. I had been looking at some possible Thai names, but I decided to wait and choose one based on his personality... This kitten was super friendly from the start, reaching at me through the bars of his carrier and rubbing on the bars and purring. He was like "Love me Love me Love me!" and that wasn't hard to do! At home, he seemed un-fazed by hearing 2 bigger, older cats growl and hiss at him. and when he very soon went to his first cat show ( just for the experience of being in a show hall; they can be in the hall at 3 months old, but can't be shown until they are 4 months old, and he wasn't quite old enough) and didn't even hide when he stayed in a motel room with a bunch of strange cats, I named him Chatri which means "courageous".

Chatri is a pedigreed / "purebred" cat, but I checked 2 breeds on here for him as well as Sam and Phai-lin,since what they are now has 2 names. In fact, Chatri is dual registered as a Siamese in CFF and as a Thai in TICA. Siamese of the original moderate type are now accepted as their own breed in TICA, under the name "Thai". As of 2010 they were promoted to the Championship level for competition in TICA. Old "Grandpa Louis" was nice to little Chatri almost from the start and Chatri enjoyed cuddling with him and grooming. Sam on the other hand spent a while longer letting everyone know he was NOT pleased that I dared to bring a kitten into the house. He threw a fit at first. He was indignant. but then he was intrigued. Hmmmm. this little guy might be fun. So Chatri soon won him over. Since then he and Sam have become best buddies, almost constantly together chasing each other through the house, wrestling, grooming each other, sleeping etc. Chatri as a kitten was like a little boy idolizing his big brother. He follows Sammy around and imitates him all the time. i have even seen the little nut follow Sammy into the litterbox so he can pee together with him ! Louis seemed to be glad these young kids were occupied pouncing on each other instead of him. but when it came naptime, often all three cats snuggled together. Chatri's grown up now but he still acts like a kitten. When he's playing he jumps sideways with all four feet. he gets tangled up in his toys and startled. and I've even seen him hopping like a bunny. he is just plain SILLY. He is such an ethereal, graceful looking cat but in some ways he is a total klutz, and his beauty just makes it funnier. Chatri is one of the most loving cats I've known. he's very sweet and very needy. He has a habit of jumping to a shelf, or top of the fridge etc. - any place around or above the level of human heads - and then goes into an act to look cute, so he can get even more attention. He starts tilting his head in an appealing manner.... and keeps tilting until he completely turns it upside down and rests it on the shelf! Or else he keeps twisting his head over until he falls over. More than once he has fallen off a shelf in the middle of these contortions. Chatri is now a Supreme Grand Champion Alter in TICA. He got a late start to his adult showing; he went to a few shows as a kitten, but then for various reasons I wasn't able to show him again until he was almost 15 months old. Conformationally that's just as well, since he is on the smaller, more refined end of the Thai standard, and it's taken him a while to grow up and fill out, but he's turned out a nice example of the breed as well as being a super nice cat and a wonderful pet. He also has twice joined his buddy Sam on a trip to New York to Meet the Breeds, where tens of thousands of visitors come to see, pet, take photos of, and learn about many breeds of dogs and cats. After Louis died, I got a little girl kitten named Phai-lin and Chatri is in love with her. They are great pals.
