Orange Tabby

He loves catnip, sitting in an open window, a warm basket of laundry, and curling up with me, wherever I am. I've been walking him recently in the backyard, and he wears his kitty harness proudly.

Getting his nails trimmed, waiting for me to feed him, and not being able to have 100% of my attention.

Favorite Toy:
those little mice that rattle. he will carry them around in his mouth and play fetch. He also likes nail files and nail buffers, plastic straws too.

Favorite Nap Spot:
wherever I am, or wherever the sun is shining. he particularly likes to be held while i am attempting to type at the computer.

Favorite Food:
plain old kitty food, but he eats indoor formula....he also likes leftover cereal milk.

he's my back-up alarm clock. if I sleep past 7, he meows and paws at my face until I get out of bed.

Arrival Story:
I adopted him from Pets Inc. when he was six weeks old. I wanted his brother too, but was lucky I had convinced my landlord to let me have ONE cat, I didn't want to press my luck. Obviously I don't live there anymore...

Maxwell is a very loving, affectionate companion. He loves to be held, sometimes like a baby. He sleeps on my head at night and drools while he purrs. Sometimes he gets a case of what I call "the lovey-doveys" and he absolutely MUST be held. He will stalk me, mewoing and trying to look as pitiful as possible. If I stand still long enough, he will jump up into my arms. He also likes for me to carry him around the house while I do things. He and Chloe are very close and get along beautifully. They often curl up together and keep one another warm. As my "first born" Maxwell has done an admirable job of adjusting to each new addition to the family. Everyone gets along remarkably well.

My Maxwell

My heart, my Maxwell

I lost my Maxwell on May 17th, 2013. He had cancer, and despite surgery, it was very aggressive and returned within months. He felt great before and after surgery, so I do not regret removing the tumor. He died in my arms on May 17th, when he finally lost the fight.

He was my first fur-child for whom I was solely responsible. I grew up with pets, and my family always had both dogs and cats, but Maxwell was the first pet I had who was just mine. Thirteen years is not enough, and twenty would not have been enough. There are no words to describe how much his absence has affected me. I am going through the motions of every day, waiting for "normal" to return. Normal is seeing him sitting beside the computer monitor at my desk. Seeing him sitting across from us at dinner, waiting for me to finish eating so I can hold him. Coming home and having him follow me to the bathroom and everywhere else in the house. Getting out of the shower and having him meow at me like "what took you so long in there?" Changing the sheets on the bed and watching him go into wild kitty mode, flattening himself out, tail twitching, hiding under the sheet as I shake it out. Holding him in my arms every day and feeling the healing vibrations of his purring. Falling asleep at night with a t-shirt on my head to keep him from drooling all over me. Lying in bed while Maxwell stomps all around my head trying to get comfy. Hearing his beautiful meow. Being lulled to sleep by his purring. Hearing the distinctive jingle of his collar as he runs down the hall.

I am heartbroken. I understand that he is gone, but I can't wrap my mind around it. He was here, and now he is not. It simply does not make sense. It's been more than a month. I am afraid the memories will fade. I feel his presence and I know I need to move on, but I don't want to leave him behind. I don't want to forget all those little details. For now I can close my eyes and easily hear him, see him, feel him. I don't want that to go away.

I dearly, DEARLY love all of my fur children. I am holding them closer while I mourn for my Maxwell. He was my baby, since he was a tiny six week old ball of fur. I can't believe how much I loved and still love him. My heart has grown as I have fallen in love with each of my children. Maxwell just happened to be the first.

Need KITTY PRAYERS for Maxwell!

Maxwell has a tumor in his armpit. It has been there for years, but recently began to get larger, and is collecting fluid. HIs vet has referred him to the specialist, and he is going tomorrow. He is still my Maxwell, healthy appetite, playful, happy and loving. He seems to feel fine. Blood work showed nothing abnormal. I hope this is just some little abnormality that can be taken care of with as little discomfort as possible for my boy. He is 13, and I couldn't POSSIBLY love him more if I had given birth to him. I do not have human children, my pets ARE my children. Maxwell is my first born. He can use some Kitty Karma in his corner and hope that all will be well and he can just get on with life! Updates to follow!

Not eating

Maxwell has not been eating for a couple of days. After a trip to the regular vet, and one last night to the emergency vet, he is still not eating. Tests have ruled out a lot of things (which is good) but an underlying cause has still not been identified. He is still at the emergency vet and being given appetite stimulants and basic supportive care. He's never refused to eat for this long before, and I am so very scared. I can't lose him!!!!!!!!! Please keep him in your thoughts and hope that he starts eating very soon!
