Arrival Story:
Edina was brought to her now-forever Mom for adoption at age 10 years. Nobody wanted to adopt a cat of her age, so she came home and joined the clan!

Her name was originally Lyra. This was a very nice name, but Edina was very depressed when she came to live with us. We got the idea of giving her a new name to go with her new life. She was given several names to choose from, and was very certain she wanted to be called "Edina." Even when Mom said that meant her nickname would be "Crazy Eddie!" Edina loves her self-chosen name, and is very proud of it.

Lyra & Tara's adventure continues

I guess nobody who has been present to witness the various stages of Lyra & Tara's stay at my place of work are surprised at the latest development. As time has worn on, Lyra and Tara & I have bonded, despite efforts to prevent this from happening. I already have 3 cats in a bachelor suite. Still, my place may be small, but my heart is huge. I wanted to get these dear girls out of the shop, where they've begun to mope again recently. My boss refused to let me bring Lyra & Tara home.

Yesterday she relented, and said I could bring them home on a trial basis. They're coming home with me this weekend.

Wish us luck! More soon.

The girls are doing very well. They have successfully weathered multiple changes in feline personnel in the cat room. The cat room assistant manager, Mark, enjoys spending time with them. The early morning staff, Katherine, says the girls greet her warmly in the morning.

Lyra loves to sit on my lap while I do clerical work. She also loves to cuddle and knead on me. She has gone to sleep in my lap several times now, her head resting on my arm.

Tara is a very relaxed and good-natured girl who verbally responds to her name and eagerly comes to me when invited to receive cuddles. Although she gladly allows me to hold her, and will stand on my knees for cuddles, she appears to be less of a lap cat than Lyra. She is however, no less affectionate. She was kneading on me last night when I was holding her.

My desire to adopt them myself is stronger than ever. Despite already having 3 cats in a bachelor suite, I want to bring them home, if only to foster them. However reason continues to sensibly win out over my personal desire. If my suite were larger I wouldn't hesitate.

We're running out of space on Catster for photos of them, so we're changing some of the photos on Catster, and refer you to my personal website for more photos. The current primary photo of Lyra was taken last night. Mark & I took several photos of them both.

The girls loved their gift of organic catnip buds, and graciously agreed to share with the boarding cats, Princess & Lucy, and Blackberry (who arrived yesterday afternoon). They still have plenty left over for themselves.

During the evening I had opportunity to spend ample time with them. They both sat with me in the front display window (a practice we particularly encourage with our adoption cats). Tara hardly spends any time in the kennel anymore, but passes most of her day out in the cat room, either relaxing under a chair or curled up inside one of the kitty condos. Lyra prefers to remain in the kennel until I come into the room and announce my presence. Then she comes out and spends time either on my lap or in my arms. She is an especially cuddly cat who loves to be held!

We were all a little surprised that nobody came to visit them on Wednesday evening, after all the interest expressed in them over the previous weekend.

If only I could adopt these wonderful girls myself! Speaking as a very experienced cat person, they are both truly exceptional felines.
