Arrival Story:
I found my mom at the local shelter. As she was walking by my cage, I reached out and tap-tap-tapped on her shoulder with my outstretched black paw. I wanted to go home with her - I could tell she was nice! I have such a friendly, outgoing personality that I was in high demand - two other people wanted me as well - but I'm glad my mom won out. I was anemic (white gums), three years old, and had patches of hair missing from my head and back, plus there were worms crawling from my butt, and I had a broken tooth to boot. The people who brought me to the shelter named me Suede (spelled "Swade"). I was a stray whom they had been feeding for a couple of months, until they grew worried because they noticed a raw open wound on my head (chemical burn), and that's when they brought me into the shelter. The shelter staff said that I was in such bad shape, that they didn't think I would survive, but my fighting personality pulled me through. I feel lucky every day that my mom was the one who was able to take me home!
