Arrival Story: Shannara's mom hung out near the car wash. The car wash manager saw her and started feeding her. She would come to him but would not let him touch her. After a few weeks it became apparent that she was going to have kittens. The manager contacted the Benld Adopt-A-Pet animal shelter and asked if he could borrow a humane cage to trap the expectant mom. She was caught easily enough and the manager dropped her off at the shelter where they immediately realized she was not feral but a cat that was abandoned. Two days after arriving at the shelter she gave birth to 5 kittens: 3 boys and 2 girls. Shannara was one of the girls and looks just like her mom.
The shelter volunteer had taken me in the back room to look at Sterling and his brother. After confirming that I wanted Sterling, I happened to look in the next cage and saw another litter with a beautiful calico sleeping in between her brothers. Without hesitation I said, "I'll take that one, too!"

Bio: I am training Shannara to be a therapy cat visiting residents in our local nursing home. She rotates with Sterling and Sundance, going once a week, along with my Collie, Amber. Amber and I have been doing this for over a year, so I want to expose Shannara to this while she is a kitten. She does well, sitting on the resident's lap while in their room, but Shannara is more shy than the boys so she prefers to cozy-up next to the residents while they are reclining on their bed. Pretty soon both the person and Shannara are dozing off. The scene is so cute that relatives have taken pictures of the two sleeping together. Amber's presence also helps, giving Shannara a familiar face and calming affect. She has her little harness and leash on and is in her carrier while we walk down the halls. Most of the residents like cats as much as dogs, so we all are a welcoming presence at the nursing home.
