Arrival Story: Sterling (shelter name: Vance), his brother and mother were brought in to the Benld Adopt-A-Pet animal shelter by an older couple who said the mother was a stray that gave birth under their porch. Sterling and his brother were only 2 days old. Six weeks later, I was looking at a white cat whose cage mate was Sterling's mom. The shelter volunteer said her two kittens were weaned and in the back room. Both were the color of their mom but one had short hair, the other had long, like the mom. So I asked to see the kittens. Being a softy for long-haired cats, when I held Sterling, he was sooooooo gentle and loving, I knew he was going home with me. Both Sterling's mom and brother were adopted after I adopted Sterling.

Bio: I am training Sterling to be a therapy cat visiting residents in nursing homes. He rotates with my other cats, going once a week, along with my Collie, Amber. Amber and I have been doing this for over a year, so I want to expose Sterling to this while he is young. He does well, sitting on the resident's lap while in their room. Amber's presence also helps, giving Sterling a familiar face and calming affect. He has his little harness and leash on and is in his carrier while we walk down the halls. Most of the residents like cats as much as dogs, so we all are a welcoming presence at the nursing home.
