Arrival Story:
I was on petfinder.com one night and I searched my zip code and found the page for this sad little kitty with one eye. I felt the need to get him b/c I know when people want to adopt a kitty, they would not want one with one eye, and I knew he deserved just as much as any other kitty to have a good and loving home. I got in contact with the rescue group and kept in contact with the foster mother for about two weeks while I saved up the money for the adoption fee. She said when he was younger he had a really bad infection in his eye and they were going to euthanize him, but since he had stolen everyone's hearts they just could not do it. They got someone to sponser him and pay for the eye removal surgery. They called him the "Million Dollar Cat". He was approx. 6-7 months when I got him. Just over a week ago he had to be put to sleep. I think whatever infection he had when he was little he never really got over. He was very tiny for his age when I adopted him, and he never gained an ounce I don't think. I adopted another little girl kitty the same month I got him and since I have had her she has filled out beautifully and gained weight, but he never did. And he was always the one eating his food, and hers! Last week when he got so down we took him to the emergency vet and he said his blood cells were breaking down. Monday he had a little rasp in his voice like he was catching a cold, so that Thurs. was my day to get off early at work so I came home with the intentions of taking him out to a friends house who does adoptions...she has all kinds of antibiotics and I wanted her to take a look at him. That afternoon when I got home from work he didn't come to the back door when I opened it. I knew then something was wrong with him. I finished getting my other clothes on and went back out to see what was wrong with him and he would not come out of his bed. He was just sitting in it kinda looking down and at me at the same time. I rushed him to her house, and she said there was nothing she could do, that I needed to get to the vet and I needed to go that night. So I got mom and we took him. I just knew it was going to be bad news, b/c he had such a hard life to begin with. They took his temp. when we got there. It was supposed to be 101 and it was 96. They said he was starting to turn yellow. They said they could give him some hemoglobin but that he was very weak and very ill. We knew what would be best would be to put him down, I couldn't see him suffer anymore. The vet gave him a 50/50 chance, but I think that was being optomistic b/c his breathing was so shallow by the time we got there. I was a good Mommy to him and he had a great three months with me. Please tell him hello up in heaven.

Bio:
I just found out this week that his foster mother had some upper respitory infections going around in her house in December. I got Weasley in November. Come to find out, it was worse than upper resp....it was a disease called FIP. Twenty five of her foster's had to be put to sleep, and whatever they had has even spread to other foster groups from them being at pet stores together. This lady supposedly had 40 foster cats at the time I got Weas. He was covered in fleas when I got him. His brother is still in foster care with her, but now I am too afraid to get him. I spoke with them to tell them what happened to Weas, and they said I can have another cat. I told them I wanted Potter, his brother. But the lady who is a friend of mine said what they have is contagious and once you get it there is nothing you can do.....so hopefully he will be around in 6 or 8 months and maybe all that will be all cleared up by then. She also told me I need to have them take Potter to two diff. vets at their expense to have blood work done on him, and explain to them what his brother Weas had. The foster mother told me she would take him to the vet and make sure he is ok, but she told me Weasley was ok! Update: As of 3-2-05 I have found out the disease called FIP is fatal, and once you have it, you have it. Nothing you can do to cure it. I am just hoping the female cat he stayed with on the porch does not have it. I have an appt. w/my vet tomorrow to let him know what we think Weas had and for him to look her over and run a few tests on her. I cloroxed the whole back porch and all their linens and litter box and food containers. So, wish Hope luck that the vet says only good things tomorrow. I will be prayin for my Pertty Girl! Another Update: As of 3-4-05, the vet says Hope is a beautiful cat and her color in her mouth looks good (her gums). He said Weas may have not had FIP. I researched the disease and it's very tricky. A lot of times vet's will misdiagnose it, and only about 10% of the time is it actually FIP. He said that Hope looks fine and very healthy, and that if I do notice any change in her to bring her to him, but that she seemed fine to him....THANK GOODNESS! ANOTHER UPDATE 3-10-05: I spoke with the vet who treated Weasley today. I went in the vet's office to ask if they had any kittens available and realized that is where Weasley was treated. I started talking about him and they remembered him. The vet came out shortly and the girl at the desk asked her if she had any info. on the cat's at the foster's house and she said yes, that she was the one who put them all down, and that they did in fact have FIP. All the ones that were in that area of the house they put down just in case b/c it is a very bad airborn virus. I told her that his foster Mom was supposed to get in contact w/me about his brother, Potter, and I have never heard back from her since the second week in February...she said they put Potter down also. I got so upset she had to take me into one of the offices. She sat me down and explained to me that he was showing all the same signs that Weasley was...watery eyes, nose sniffly, very tiny for his age. She said his foster Mom was very upset and held him and cried and cried when she made the decision to put him down. I feel so bad for her, but she I think just got overwhelmed with everything. I think she had too much to handle at the time. So, I will never have Potter, but he is up there with his brother now. I am now in search of a kitten. Everywhere I have called said it's not quite time for kittens right now, to wait about six weeks and there will be kittens galore! UPDATE: It is September now, I'm a little slow at updating, but the second weekend in March I got Hope a new friend, a kitten named Cooper. He's got his own page also, but he is a lot bigger now than when I took those pics. I took those right after I brought him home. He is now a big Momma's boy. He's still a teenager, all lanky and skinny. I paid five dollars for him at the flea market, isn't that sweet!?
