This cat is a ninja. If you don't think she can do it, don't bet money. >.>
My ex husband and I were preparing to leave for a business trip to Junction City, Kansas and on break at work why Ty, one of our co-workers, came to the smoking area holding a kitten that couldn't have been more than 2 months old!
The kitten was mewing and scared but not trying to get away from Ty.
Ty explained that he had found the kitten lying in a parking lot near the job and brought it here because it was about to rain and someone might take it home.
She was so cute that everyone wanted to take her home with them and as we carefully passed the kitten around, holding and examining her, I was the only person she would cuddle up and be quiet with.
So, the group decided that she would go home with me.
My ex would normally have said "we have one already!" but her eyes hadn't even changed colors yet and she was so tiny that even he couldn't say no.
Once we got her home, we realized that she was quite a little ninja and very smart so we named her Max after Jessica Alba's character in Dark Angel who has feline DNA.
Jay and and his fiance Holly (Holly moved in with us a bit before Max did) absolutely loved Max and agreed to stay in close contact with her while we were away on our trip.
She seemed like a feral cat to me and would need lots of love and attention if she were to properly domesticate.
She spent a fair amount of time annoying Farah who graciously put up with her antics until she thought Max was big enough and then began "laying the smackdown" as Jay described it.
Max is now 4 years old and still very playful and active but never got very big.
In fact, she is about as tall as a 1 gallon carton of Pepperidge Farms goldfish when she sits up.
Max is a feral cat and while feral cats can be domesticated, I don't think Max is fully capable of becoming a "normal" house cat.
She can be very ill tempered and needs constant exposure to humans with whom she is familiar (particularly myself or my ex and Holly or Jay before they moved) in order to maintain an even-tempered behavior.
When a new man came into my life, I didn't worry too much about it because Max lived with my ex, but when she moved in with us, she found out very quickly that this man loves animals but does not take "no" for an answer.
At first, I thought they would have trouble with one another. She would spit and hiss when he told her no or swatted her for something but within 24 hours she was sleeping on his worn clothes.
Max seems to be fine with me but she is not to be trifled with even now.
My mother calls her "BK."
This is not a polite though very fitting nickname. >.>
Interesting information about Max's breed:
I think that she has an Egyptian Mau secondary or "background" her skin is blue and her voice is very melodic.
She is impatient with but tolerates other pets and small children.
The Catster profile for Egyptian Mau states:
o Loyal to their owners
o Extremely agile and athletic
o Capable of making different sounds
o Inquisitive and highly intelligent
o Masters tricks easily
o Easy-to-care-for spotted coat
Max's spots to do go all the way down to her skin the way a purebred Egyptian Mau's would and everything else fits her perfectly.
