Arrival Story:
I had very recently lost my beloved cat, Jackson. I told myself I wasn't ready to adopt another cat so soon, but yet I found myself at the county shelter one Saturday afternoon. As soon as I walked in, there was a black and grey tabby in a cage in the lobby. I walked up to her and she stretched her little paw out to me. When I put my finger on her paw, she curled her little toes around my finger. I still wasn't sure I was doing the right thing, it had only been two weeks since I lost Jackson. Was I ready to give this little kitty the love she deserved? I left the shelter and came home, but couldn't stop thinking about her. By the next morning, I had made up my mind that there was no way I could leave her at the shelter. She was about 3 or 4 years old, a little (ok, quite a bit) overweight and I knew she would have a difficult time finding a home (everyone was more interested in the kittens and younger cats). I Could not bear the thought of her getting "put down". She was soooo sweet! I went back to the shelter, but she was GONE! I frantically searched for a shelter worker who told me she was at an adoption event at Petsmart. I got in my car and raced down to Petsmart, thankfully she was still there. I filled out the adoption paperwork and brought her HOME!! Her shelter name was Shortcake, I thought about changing it, but it suits her so well!
