Toby's Diary

I had forgotten to say that on Friday I went outdoors. My mum said as it was sunny she must mow the lawn and to do this first she opens the back door to run the cable through and then the bedrom window.

I followed Josie as she walked out of the window and along the window ledge. Josie then jumped down. I wasn't sure that I was ready to jump down so I tried to walk backwards. In the cartoons they make walking backwards look easy but it isn't. Actually I fell off.

My mum was there chatting to Paul from next door so she scooped me up and put me back in the window. They were chatting about cats which is what they talk about most and I wanted to hear more and I was feeling brave so down I jumped.

I enjoyed sniffing the grass and the plants but then mum started the mower. It was like the hoover only a million times more scary. I forgot that I had come out of the window and ran to the front door - only it was shut so I ran to the back door which mercifully was open and I was safe indoors again.

This morning I was in a really bouncy mood and mum said to give Josie some respite maybe I should have a run outdoors so she opened the back door for me. I was having a marvellous time sniffibng everything and looking for things to chase but then Dylan appeared and he walked in our door.

Mum says I shouldn't worry about Dylan as he is an old boy and only interested in food but he has a sharp tongue on him and secretly I am a little afraid of him. When he hissed at me mum said he had to go so she put him out and shut the door and that was the end of my outdoors adventure.

I did like it though and I hope I get to go again.

There is nothing better than the great outdoors mate. But be careful. There's a lot of things that can hurt you. But it's also a nice place too. I love going out and rolling around in the grass and giving mum a hug afterwards as she can't stand the smell of me.

Yes Toby. Do be careful. I LOVE going outside but Mom always goes with me. The follows every step I make like I'm a baby. Glad you had fun.
