Arrival Story:
I went to a tag sale a few years ago looking for the usual treasures. In the back of the person's garage was a cage with a sign on it "I need a good home". My neighbor, who was with me at the tag sale, took the teeny little kitty out of the cage, handed it to me and said "Here!" You two are meant for each other. I wasn't looking for a cat. I had just lost my beloved doggie Mabel and if anything I wanted another dog. But I took Mildred with me, stopped at the store on the way home for some kitty supplies, and Mildred came home to live with me. I named her Mildred (my late mother's middle name), and voila! I became a proud kitty mother. Mildred was so teeny, under 2 pounds, about 4 months old, found abandoned in an old warehouse, rather feral, and scared to death. She hid on me the first day. I couldn't find her although I knew she was somewhere in the house. Needless to say, Mildred and I have come a long way. She is quite the marvelous, beautiful kitty cat, still with a touch of the feral in her. Her instinct is to bite when scared. I've learned to be very careful. But she is a snuggler and we are doing just fine.

Gad zukes! Today has been a rough one so far. Yes indeedy. Sometime last winter the road right in front of our house got a big sink hole in it. Everyone was afraid they would fall in and disappear along with their cars. Some men sort of fixed it about a month later after ripping the road up and hitting the sewer line that goes to our house. My mom wasn’t happy about that since we had no water and couldn‘t use the “facilities.” I wasn’t all that concerned because I have my own litter box which I did offer to my mom but she didn’t seem all that interested.

Anyhow, today after all these months the men finally came back and finished paving over the patched up stuff they put out there in the first place. Huge trucks, loud bangs, thuds, rumblings - worse than a thunder storm. The whole house shook. I hate it when that happens. I was so scared I couldn’t even look out my favorite front window. I hid under my mom’s bed until they finally left. I finally had my lunch (much later than I like) and now I’m going to take a well-deserved nap since it’s quiet again around here.

Well, I sure hope all you guys are having a better day than I’ve had so far. I don’t like scary things. I don’t think any of us cats do. Maybe that’s why they call us scaredy-cats sometimes?

Til next time -

May 16, 2011

Finally got some time to write in my diary and get it typed up. My mom has been very busy and I must admit that I am probably not helping the situation much. My mom says I am into everything. My mom sells antique linens and lace in an antique shop and she keeps a lot of that stuff up here in the computer room, supposedly away from me. Yeah right. Rotsa ruck as they say.

Right now as my mom types this I am resting in a big basket filled with old doilies my mom hopes to sell someday. They are very soft and make a perfect place for a nap! Earlier today I “helped” my mom unravel a huge bolt of old lace edging that she had put way up high out of my reach. She sometimes forgets that nothing is out of my reach. I am her first cat. She always had dogs. She still doesn’t completely get it that we cats are different than dogs, aren’t we? Chuckle, chuckle.

Anyway, somehow the bolt of lace fell on the floor and now there are hundreds of yards of lace all over the place that need to be rewound. I don’t think my mom was happy about this. Some of the things she muttered when she was gathering up the heap of lace didn’t sound happy. She said she will rewind the lace someday when she has the time.

Well, gotta go. My mom has work to do and I must get back to my mid-morning nap.

Til next time,

Sorry I haven’t written for awhile. My mom has been doing a bunch of other stuff and couldn’t type my diary for me. I wish I could type it but my paws aren’t nimble enough. I do think my paws are nimble enough to handle a mouse though, but alas, I don’t see any mouse handling in my near future. My mom never lets me go outside. We live on a very busy street and she’s afraid I’ll get hurt.

I had a really great birthday thanks to all of you who sent me kind wishes and presents. We had some real excitement here on my birthday. It was very windy and one of our attic windows blew out into the front yard. Needless to say, my mom is not a happy camper. We live in a real old house and this kind of thing happens a lot. Everyone tells my mom she should move out of here but for some reason she likes the old place. I’m ok here as long as I have all my stuff and my window sills and the wicker furniture.

My mom’s friends say I’m part Maine Coon but my doctor says I’m not, that I’m a typical domestic longhair. I don’t think I’m typical at all. My mom doesn’t either. She says I’m special. I don’t like my doctor all that much. She clips my nails real short. I need my nails long for that demolition project I’m doing on the wicker chair in the front room. It sometimes takes 3 doctors to hold me still and I only weigh 7 pounds! I’m very strong for my size and the doctor says I’m quite frisky. I have to go for my annual checkup soon and I will put up a good fight. My mom is dreading it.

Well, I better sign off and get in another nap before dinner.

Til next time -
