Arrival Story:
My first cat had passed away on Valentines Day 2009. She had been a major part of my life and journey. The loss was incredibly hard and still hurts to this day. Her death was not an easy one as their was much suffering and illness. I swore that there would be no more pets. The thing is, I couldnt bring myself to throw out any of her toys, food or bowls and left everything in their original places. About 2 weeks later.. I find myself at Bideawee Animal Shelter. My original plan was to get a kitten. Cute, tiny and in perfect health. I saw one that I liked, and informed the staff that I would be back the next day to bring him home. I return the next day and what do you know? The Kitten was gone. Okay. So as I turn to leave, One of the staff members is holding this scrawny looking little cat who was born with one eye that was not fully developed and another eye rendered blind due to an infection, AND was in the midst of a respitory infection! Somehow, Mia who at the time was named Lucky got a sense of me, jumped from the staff member's arms and that was that. She literally plopped down at my feet and would not move. Other cats were swatting at her out of jealousy to no avail. Mia had found her human. Naturally, I go next door to the Pet Shop, buy her a Sherpa carrier (only the best will do) and bring her home. She had me at hello :)

Mia was born with a degenerative eye defect affecting her right eye. The commonly used term is "Small Eye" The left eye was scarred due to an untreated eye infection. She is originally from The Hamptons (explains the Diva traits) and spent the first year of her life being loved and socialized by shelter employees. She doesnt realize that she is blind and Im not going to tell her! Besides, she's beautiful flaws and all. She has the most gregarious and loving personality. She simply adores people and other animals. She has also become a mascot of sorts in our building and has a boyfriend named Cruz :)
