Arrival Story:
It was about 7 months after we lost our other kitty, and I told mom I didn't want another cat...but she found an ad in the paper and went with my sister to get a kitty while I was at school. She came home with Opal-originally meant to be my sister's, and Topaz-love at first sight. The lady who had them had 7 adult, unfixed cats, and they had 2 litters of kittens. Opal and Topaz were from different litters. She didn't have room in the small house for them, so she ended up putting the kittens outside half of the day....in winter, at only ~ a month old. :( Most of them didn't survive...and the local shelter was called in to help catch kittens and save the ones they could...and help the elderly lady get her adult cats fixed so they were managable. I became caretaker to both kittens, and they grew very attached to eachother..so I have now had both of my 'daughters' for over 8 years now. ^-^ I love my babies.
Topaz has been partially blind and is prone to upper respiratory infections due to her ordeal outside as a kitten. The vets said she has corneal damage from a scratch by another cat or from getting caught on a branch etc. when she was outdoors. Due to this, she is leery of people she doesn't know and doesn't trust a lot of people. But she is my most loyal and protective kitty. I love her more than anything...she's my little girl. ^-^
