Arrival Story:
I had been thinking about adopting a second cat for awhile. Valentine's Day rolled around, and I got the crazy idea to let my husband pick out a cat that would be all his own. Originally I'd planned on getting an older kitten, a 1 or 2 year old, who would be physically smaller than our current cat, Tess. However, my friend Annie approached me the day I decided to do it and asked if I might be looking for a kitten! Total coincidence, which I took as a good sign. Her Siamese kitten and longhair tabby had an unplanned pregnancy and their litter had just been born. I talked to Brian about it and the next day we met the kittens. They were only three weeks old. Their eyes had just opened and they could barely walk. We thought we would end up with a little black and white kitten, but when we walked in this little guy stuck up his head and staggered over to Brian. That's the guy Brian picked! He came home when he was 6 weeks old - February 22. He has grown to about 70000 times as big as he was back then, and has mellowed from a pretty wild and unloving kitten to a mellower guy who's a great big brother to his baby sister, Mina. He is definitely Brian's special little guy.

Bio:
Simonis gray with white socks. His Mom is a sleek Siamese, but his Dad is ENORMOUS and has tons of hair. He looks very much like a gray Maine Coon. After much deliberation, we decided to name him Simon... ironically, it was a name we came up with right away, on the drive back from meeting him for the first time. But we had to keep second guessing ourselves until right before he came home.

Confessions of a Little Dude

Big boy now...

Simon has grown up so much in a year. He's enormous - bigger than our 7 year old girl cat. He's partially long hair and partly short, which makes him very sleek and seal like. He's getting more and more friendly, curling up with us at night, jumping in Brian's lap at the computer desk.

He loves to chew on plastic. *sigh* He loves to play with my elastic hair bands, carrying them around, knocking them into the sink. Adorable.

Despite his manly body, he has a tiny little bird chirp of a voice.

Simon turns six this month and we made an appointment for him to get neutered. The vet had an opening for this week, so all of a sudden we were denying him food and boxing him in a carrier.

We are amazed at how empty the house feels without our yittle dude. He looked pretty freaked out when we left him with the vet, and we can't pick him up until tomorrow morning.

The worst part was filling out the form... it didn't say "neutering" or "spaying," it said...

CASTRATION.

YIKES!!!

I wish we could have afforded the less invasive laser surgery, but unfortunately summer is our tightest season, budget-wise. Hopefully Simon will come back a little out of it but overall ok!

Simon is almost 3 months old now. He is loving the spring, with all the outdoor action he can watch through the window.

He's getting quite good at entertaining himself, and especially loves playing with my hairbands and fighting with shoes. Tess is always fun to play with, so he's getting pretty good at pissing her off as well.

We just love him.
