Arrival Story:
Chocolate showed up in our backyard one late afternoon in May of 09. Her long coat was disheveled and not in the best condition but although she did run the first few times I tried to coax her to food and water, she did eventually start coming around and became part of our family. I don't exactly know how old she is but she's just a tad bigger than our two sister cats, Patches and Oreo. I kept feeding her and giving her water and she now stays at home. She comes in to eat and goes straight to the door to be let out. If it's too cold outside, we let her in or bring her in for her own safety and comfort. She's not litterbox trained which is something I wish we can work on and my other cats don't get along with her, specifically Oreo, another thing I'd like to change. She's got a very soft and short "meow" and is still playful and loves to have her coat brushed. She's a good kitty and I'm glad we're able to give her a home!

Chocolate Thanks You!

Chocolate and I want to thank all of Chocolate's new friends and everyone for their gifts, congratulations and well wishes, for being COTD! It is a great honor!

Chocolate has been hanging around this time not like when I first started her diary. It has been very hot around here and she has been spending more time indoors in the cool air. She does let me know when she wants to go out and there are times when she doesn't want to come inside but just lounge in the backyard in the shade on the cool patio floor.

She has been eating good and also has been getting her fur back to fluff, especially noticeable around her face and head. She does seem to have some cold or wheezing now and then. Her eyes are fine and clear and when she's not bathing herself, she's sleeping and relaxing.

We're looking to get some bad weather around here next week, tropical storm type, so she'll more than likely spend most of it inside. When we got a small storm a few days ago, she wanted out and ran to the backyard in the rain, then quickly came back to the front to be let in! She spent just enough time outside to get a little wet but immediately went to the front door and put her paws up on it. For being a stray/feral cat up until two years ago, she's pretty smart. I'll keep an eye out for her if we do get this weather. She'll be safe and dry.

Been doing better!

Well I hadn't updated because life caught up with me. I'm happy to report that Chocolate has been doing better and is actually eating whole 3 oz cans of Fancy Feast food without leaving any leftovers! She's also been hanging around more and even stays inside to lounge longer.

About two days ago, I pulled the blinds in the kitchen window first thing in the morning and there was Chocolate in the middle of the backyard with a small rat in her jaws! Eeek! I went outside and stood by the backdoor and just observed her and she was having fun with this good sized rat! She's still very agile for her age and health and she was playing with it throwing it around. Then she got bored with it and just left it there in the middle of the yard for me to dispose of! Thank you Chocolate! LOL! This wasn't her first rodent either and she's also taken down two birds, plus the lizards.

I've been brushing her coat and it seems to be bouncing back if not just a tad. Her eye is clear and she seems a bit brighter than two weeks ago when I was afraid she was going to leave us.

And again, Chocolate and I would like to thank everyone for all their well wishes, gifts, and congratulations on being DOTD again and for everyone's comments and advice! This little cat was living who knows how and now for the past two years she's got a home to come home to with good food, good coat brushings and good tummy scratches! She's a good kitty!

Well Chocolate wasn't around this morning nor for a better part of the day. Looked for her, called out for her and nothing. Not that she comes all the time when I call out for her :-) Towards the early evening, light still out, I saw her in the backyard through the kitchen window. She was lying on some stacked bricks in the corner of the property looking down at something. It's like all of a sudden she appeared there yet it looked like as if she had been there for awhile, strange, lol. I went out immediately and called her to come and got close to her but she couldn't be bothered. She was too busy scoping out some lizard and had her eyes and concentration locked on it. I left her to her amusements and it wasn't till a short while later that I went out again and this time she came running full force it seemed! Still very agile! She ate and then before bedtime, she ate again, so all in all it was a good day!
