Arrival Story:
I found her in the parking lot of the local YMCA at 6 am one late September morning. As I got out of my car I heard what sounded like a kitten mewing. Thinking I either needed more coffee or that maybe I was hearing a bird, I stopped and listened. When I heard it again I followed the sound to a row of vehicles. As I approached the row she came out from behind the tire of a pickup, yowling. She came right to me and let me pick her up. I took her to my car - no, I didn't make it into the Y that morning - and she rode home on my shoulder, purring the whole way. When I got home I called the front desk at the Y, told the receptionist that I'd found a spotted gray kitten in the parking lot and asked if anyone had reported a lost kitten. The receptionist told me that no, no one had been in looking for, or reported one. I left my name and contact info in case someone came in looking for their lost kitten. After giving her some breakfast - the kitten, not the receptionist -my wife took her to our vet. The vet said she was between 2 and 3 months old at the time and in good condition. After her initial shots and a good checkup she went back to our house and joined the rest of the pride; Louie and Layla - then 6 month old brother and sister - and Skritz, their sometimes cranky 13 year old "aunt." They're all rescues. She quickly became a member of the family and really enjoys playing with her older brother and sister, and tormenting her aunt. Her beautiful golden eyes are starting to turn green.

New Toys

Dad is spoiling us again! He bought us new toys - something called 'Da Bird'. We all love all the fun stuff at the end of the string. He bought a couple of packs of different toys that clip onto a string attached to a rod, and they're great fun to chase around the house. Our favorites are the different colored feathers that seem to fly around almost like the birds we watch through the windows on kitty TV. We still play with all our other toys but this newest one is the best!

Yeah, like I purred in my last entry, we're spoiled. No use in denying it. Dad says we're spoiled so rotten we stink.

Everyone is doing well. Old Aunt Skritz is really enjoying lying in the sun out in the front garden. Since Chumani, Layla, Louie and I have been indoor cats since we came to live with mom and dad we don't get to do that and really don't care to. Aunt Ashes, however, really wants to go out. We don't know much about her life before she joined our family but mom and dad think she must have been an indoor and outdoor cat since she tries to escape so often. She's getting better about it, or maybe mom and dad have gotten better at making sure she doesn't escape (like she has a few times in the past.)

Dad retired a few weeks ago and is recovering from shoulder replacement surgery so we have him at home all the time now. He can play with his other arm and does so a couple of times a day so I suppose we'll be even more spoiled. If he thinks we're stinky now, he just needs to wait a little while and we'll show him the definition of spoiled rotten.

Skritz Update

Old Aunt Skritz continues to show just how tough she is. She's gained a pound, her coat looks much better, the stitches in her ear are gone, she has returned to sleeping on the bed with mom and dad, and is purring again. She has a kink in her left ear now and the surgery wounds must itch because she scratches her ear some but she seems to be doing great for all she's been through. Dad said that after going outside for a little while this morning she trotted up the back steps to go back inside like she used to - quite a change from the hesitant, almost crawling up the steps like she was doing last month.

The rest of the clan are also doing well. The Tiny Terrorist - Chumani - tries to steal our treats in the evening. Louie and Layla have become much more loving and even Ashes acts better toward us. I've discovered how nice it is to go to sleep on the bed, but trying to find a clear spot is getting difficult since Louie, Aunt Skritz and Ashes all want to do the same thing. Layla usually starts out on the floor under the bed and Chumani usually starts out on the back of the sofa, but they usually make an appearance before morning. In order for everyone to get some bed time we play a version of 'musical cats' throughout the night.

I guess I'll have to admit that we're all pretty spoiled.

Old Aunt Skritz

Old Aunt Skritz is at the vet tonight and we don't know if she's coming home.

She developed what looked like a blood blister on her left ear over the weekend so Mom took her to the vet this morning. Dr Tim said that due to the size and location of the blister they would have to use a general anesthetic and slowly drain the built up fluid. She made it through the procedure but she had a little bit of a rough time of it. They found that she has extremely low RBC count and Dr Tim is very worried about her chances. She's going to stay at the vet's tonight and we'll see how she's doing tomorrow morning.

Mom and dad are being real quiet tonight. I hope Aunt Skritz can come home. It's not the same when one of our family is not here. Mom told dad when he came home that I wondered around the house all day and wasn't interested in much. I guess I did.

I'll post again soon regardless of the news tomorrow morning. I don't feel like adding anything else this evening.
