The Tales of Sir Uther Pendragon

The Rainbow Bridge is everyone's destination

Today Uther lost his valiant fight against FIP.

Uther was lying unresponsive and was rushed to the vet. There was nothing anyone could do to save him. Uther is now at peace and waiting for us at the rainbow bridge.

Que hora es Senior?
Who's that handsome cat standing there by the door?
We think we knew you from a thousand years before
Que hora es Senior?
We need a little more.
(Una Soda lyrics by the Refreshments)

Uther was much loved and will be missed.

Special heartfelt thanks to Machray Animal Hospital staff and especially Dr.'s Keddie and Devianne.

Another visit to the vet

Uther checking in. On Friday, I started to sneeze and have a runny nose. Then my eye started to run too with a milky white discharge. By Sunday, I wasn't eating at all and my nose was plugged and I was breathing through my mouth. I started sleeping on Barbie's side of the bed.

Today, Barbie took me to the vet. I had a fever, runny nose, runny eye which was swollen half shut and ulcers in my mouth. No wonder I am not eating!

I got fixed right up. Dr. Devianne gave me some fluid which perked me up considerably. I also got an antibiotic shot that should take care of the infection. The humans had been steaming me in the bathroom and let me tell you that really works for a little while. I sneezed a lot of boogers in there and it helped me breathe. We will be continuing this until I clear up.

So far so good. Barbie noticed today that I come to her when I am feeling unwell and go to Tom for everything else. So now all I have to do is rest and get better. I almost forgot about the special recovery wet food I got. I'm not too hungry at the moment but, everyone is expecting that to change. Barbie says she'll stop crying when I become hungry again although she has cheered up considerably since leaving the vet with some peace of mind.

How can anyone not love life as long as it lasts!

A visit to the vet with tragic news

Everything has been going well here. I am eating and drinking like a King. About a week ago, I did not feel like playing anymore. I am sleeping a bit more too. That was fine with everyone until the Barbie noticed when she petted me, I was very bony. In and of itself, it is not really an issue except for the fact that my belly got really huge. I look pregnant and I am a boy!

The Barbie became concerned and phoned Tom's vet in Charleswood to make me an appointment. She told them her concerns (how can I be skinny and fat at the same time) and had to mention that she has a severe latex allergy. They told the Barbie they would call back if a doctor there would agree to accommodate her. They did not call back so the Barbie called her vet and they were concerned enough to book me in for 10 AM the next day.

The ride to the vet was uneventful with Barbie telling me what would happen. She swore to me that we all belong to each other and if I need anything, I will get it.

So we get into the room and I am examined. We were told that I am a classic case of FIP! I am FLV positive and am fighting two viral infections at the same time. The fat belly was fluid and eventually a pound of it was drained off. Whew! What a relief!

I was held at the vet for a while to do the blood work and to drain my belly. When I was ready to go home, the Barbie was there as I expected but, she also brought my Tom! I was so happy to see them both (especially Tom, my favorite) and they took me home. I have been given prednisone for inflammation and antibiotics to help me fight infection.

Getting home was great. I hid for a while because all the other animals kept smelling me. After I had calmed down and realized that I did feel much better, I looked at Barbie with new eye. She took me to the doctor and now I feel much better!

Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good. There is a high incidence of death from this illness to the tune of 97%. I may or may not respond to treatment and I have months left if I don't respond. I guess that is why Barbie is crying so much. Don't cry for me Barbie. I may have had a tough life but, at least now I have a great home, great room mates, food, health care, lovins, and companionship. I would never have had that in this degree if you guys hadn't gotten me. I have been transformed by your enveloping me with such love that I know it is me that is incredibly lucky. Whatever happens in my future, I won't worry about. All I care about is right now and that is good.
