Arrival Story:
Sweet Pea came to me in a round about way. She was taken in by a friend of mine, Ike, during a very cold and rainy snap in early 2007. She had been hanging around his home along with two other feral/strays. She had a very sweet demeanor and wasn't as afraid as the other two cats. One night she was allowed to come in. It was very cold & rainy. Upon coming to us, she was very petite & quite skinny. She took to being a "house cat" in no time at all! We noticed, as time was going by that she kept getting fatter & fatter & fatter. The surprise for us was that she was pregnant! On April 15th, 2007 she went into labor. During her delivery, one of her kittens was stuck in the birth canal. She was taken to the emergency vet who with a slight pull & tug gave this small kitten life & saved Sweet Pea's life too. All in all, she gave birth to 4 kittens. Two black, one gray and one striped grayish tabby (the runt). She was a great mom & took very good care her brood. Sadly though, her saviour, Ike, passed away unexpectedly which left her and her four kittens homeless. I couldn't stand the thought of Sweet Pea going back out on the streets or to the pound. I agreed to take her home with me, after all...what's one more? My friend, Joan agreed to take all four kittens to add to her family of 3. 3+4=7 cats for Joan! Ike also had a small dog who Joan also said she would take. God Bless Joan! Sweet Pea aka Ma Ma, settled into her new home with me quickly & liked being the only female kitty of the household. Her favorite food is dry kibble & she will tear into any unguarded bag of dry food, full force! She is not much for human food and eats very little canned cat food. She however weighs 13 pounds!! Some people have said she looks like a pear, a bowling ball, and even a tic! (Yuk) She has such a small head for such a swelled up body! But I don't know what else to do with her, she constantly has her face in the food dish. I guess this is where her four kittens came by it-naturally. All four of her kittens weigh over 25 pounds EACH!, including the runt! Ma Ma and Beau Beau play together often. The favorite game being "chase!" and "ambush"! Since Alex's death, she has become more & more needy (affectionate). I guess that's her way of grieving. All three of us are in the same boat, missing Alex. Everyone tells me "time will heal your hearts" and I choose to believe in that. My kitties are well taken care of & loved very much, I don't know what I'd do without them in my life. Thanks for taking the time to read my babies stories. Take care & feed everything that looks hungry! That's my motto!
