Arrival Story:
Chango and nine siblings were dumped in an oily ditch when they were only a couple of days old. A wandering hiker found them and immediately notified a no-kill shelter nearby. The shelter was full, so they asked Chango's future "Mama" to foster him and another sibling until he could be put up for adoption. (The photo below shows an emaciated Chango on the first day of fostering.) Both kittens were dropper-fed for weeks and, unfortunately, Chango's sibling died from complications due to ingestion of the motor oil in the ditch. When it came time to neuter and put Chango up for adoption, his Mama couldn't part with him, so he became the official brother of a Standard Poodle named Simba. Simba grooms him every night before bed, and they usually sleep curled around each other.

Bio:
Sweet Chango passed away from acute feline leukemia on July 22, 2011, even though he had all his shots up to date. Because he lived in a remote area of Mexico, it is likely the vaccination was outdated or of inferior quality, and did not protect him against this killer disease. He was only two years old. He will be sorely missed. A heartfelt thanks to all those who came to our family's aid during our grief. Your kindness will always be remembered.
