They’re really back – all 5 kittens!!! The Mama could hardly believe it! It happened like this…
Last night, around 12:30 AM, after the pawrents were in bed asleep, the Mama was awakened by something, she didn’t know what. She got out of bed and grabbed the flashlight to investigate. She saw me and Sleeper both on the window perch looking down at the porch. But the noise was coming from somewhere outside. When she shined the flashlight there was the Baby Marble hanging on to the outside window seal blinking back at her! You could have knocked her over with a single kitten paw!!!
She woke up the Papa and turned on the porch light; three babies and the Little Mama came running up clamoring for food! It was raining and the Little Mama looked soaked, though the babies didn’t. Real quick our Mama dished some wet food on a platter and took it out to them, and here came the other two kits from under the shelter. And, holy cats, were they all hungry!!!
Where have you kits BEEN???? It’s been a week and a half and the Mama was worried sick about you! (Personally, I wasn’t worried – hey, there’s plenty more cats out there on the porch – more than I think necessary, but they didn’t ask ME about it.)
Anyways, all the excitement got me worked up, so I went out in the cattery and caught a shrew! (What IS it with shrews? Are they short-sighted? Do they not run as fast as mice or is it that they foolishly stay to fight instead of skedaddling as would be prudent when faced with a creature that’s, like, a gazillion times bigger than you, and that has fangs as long as your legs?)
Finally things quieted down; Mama gave me treats and Papa took my shrew. :( The babies ate till they could hardly walk, and waddled off to the shelter. Fearless stopped running and Sleeper stopped grumping and the pawrents went back to bed. End of story.
Oh, except the little wannabe cats are STILL here this morning. :)
Mama must have felt the need to hide them away and protect them from something. Glad to hear that they are safe.
By the way....was it the "Taming of the Shrew"? MOL! I don't know if we have shrews here. We have mice and moles and voles, though.
I hope the shrew was still breathing when your dad took it away!
I bet the Mama was SO happy to see furmama and all the kitties. What a happy sight. I agree with Skylar, I wonder if she was hiding them to protect them. Maybe she felt safer coming out in the rain. Since the kitties weren't wet, maybe they are hiding someplace nearby. I hope they stick around where they are safe and sheltered.
Ok, I don't even know what a shew is, I will have to look that up. Happy shrew hunting!
We seem to be back in the same routine - they were all gone during the day, though the Little Mama came around now and then (the human Mama was home today), and then once the sun went down, there they were.
They sure are skinny-looking.
Oh, and I'm afraid the shrew didn't make it.
I'm so so happy they are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Woohoo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We were so worried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sam your mean! But I'm positive that's why I like you (and Zach loves you)....you tell things as you see them and to you there is to many cats, fearless is a aggravating hyper kit and Sleeper...can't imagine her being grumpy but then most cats can't believe that I'm grumpy. I should write a diary screaming the truth from the rooftops about my roommates. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow if I remember too. Thanks for the idea!
OK, it's pretty nice, I guess, that the kits came back. They are kinda...cute, I suppose. Our Mama says we'd sound more enthusiastic, but she and I have both had a little stomach bug today. Maybe we both need to be wormed - MOL! We will have to check out your diary tomorrow...
I guess Mom needs to be wormed too. See Mom has been a 6 day a week vegetarian since March. (Part of her reconnecting with her self plan.) Anyway, she's on this steroid/pain killer/anti-inflammatory for her knee right now (she's got jumper knee again!) And it's killing all the friendly bacteria in her stomach....do you know what happens when a veggie eater isn't properly processing their veggies? Particularly broccoli, cauliflower. Beans. mom eats a lot of different kind of beans to get her protein and fiber and BOY can you tell it right now. Even Gris (stinky) is going "Dang Mom!" as he runs out the room.
I even swear I seen Diamond's nose wrinkle earlier tonight.
If you can't laugh at yourself than you take life way to dang serious....Confucius Mommie Chris says.
OK, so first off are you taking some probiotics to help those friendly bacteria? And then, here's something the Mama takes because she has IBS and just all around chronic digestive problems - it's called AbsorbAid Digestive Support: powdered enzymes in a capsule form. This one is put out by Nature's Sources and she gets it from the healthfood store. It does make a difference in how well her body processes foods. Of course, maybe you just need to be wormed. MOL!
That's pawsome that the kittens are back!
That's fantastic you have seen the kitty's, Purrs Sam.
About the Shrew do you have them wild? I have never seen one. I hear some humans keep them as pets, is that right?
I'm so happy the kittens are back!!! We were all worried. Did your shrew have catnip in it?
Looks like the Little Mama has taken the kittens off to another location again - they were missing again today. Hope they have some good shelter; it was raining on and off all day. Our Mama says she can't allow herself to go through that emotional upset all over again; she's going to have to allow their Mama to do what she thinks best.
About the shrew - they are pretty common here. They appear to be fairly active during the day, unlike mice. They're about the same size, but have a very soft velvety coat and tiny eyes rather like a mole; a very sharp snout and a short tail. They have a reputation for being very fierce, and doing battle with creatures larger than themselves.
We read this and meant to come back to comment. But, we are so very glad they came back! What a wonderful a site it must have been for the Mama to see those little ones.
