I hate that I got a DDP talking about our friends that crossed over the bridge this last weekend. And I was too emotional when I wrote my diary last night. And I realized it this morning. But I still hate it when we loose friends in batches. I wish I had gotten DDP from talking about something fun. But I know there's a time and a place for all emotions. And where better to talk about these sad feelings than here where everybody has the same passion.
Anyway, so life goes on here...
The squirrels are still stealing the bird food of the back deck
Mom still crying over not being able to get that last 10 pds off
(and here we are in the eating season)
Gris is still as vain as ever, constantly bathing and fluffing up his tail (Mom says she's heard that is a long hair personality trait)
Zach still follows Mom around like she's the best thing since slice bread (got a new pic to prove it)
Diamond has tore up two new petsmart tennis balls in three days and chasing squirrels.
And me, loving my fill in boyfriend for the holidays. Skylar is a true gentleman, so attentive.
Oh and good news bad news...my itchy scratchies are gone! Yay! Bad news...I'm back in the bathroom. I peed in my spot on the floor again. Mom really needs advice. She believes cause the guys decided to use MY bathroom and only my bathroom, not the other two, that it is getting way to dirty for me during the day. And with Mom being busier than normal, sometimes not getting home till late she wonders if that's why I have peed in my old spot. I mean, do you know how much poop and pee three cats put out in a days time. A lot and in only one litterbox!
MOM- Anybody have suggestions on how to scare the boys out of her litterbox without scaring her? I don't need her getting litterbox fear on top of her bad habit. PS- where she pees has been fully deammoniaized (is that a word..if not I just made it one LOL) so she went back there out of habit not smell (like they always say they do). Maybe like with puppies, I should put stuff on the floor in that spot like books. I need a cat whisperer for this problem, I really do. But it has gotten better, really it has.
You need more litterboxes. How many do you have in the house? With 3 cats you should have AT LEAST 3 to 4 boxes. Don't go scaring anyone out of anything. You'll really have a problem then!
Oh thank God it's Alex!
We have three litter boxes but the guys have seemed to forget about the other two after I got my new shinny one. Mom also bought me the good smelling (expensive) kitty attract (not the litter but the herbs themselves)..she thought that was what was bringing the boys in so she put it in the other two boxes and they still ignore them. I really thank they use my box to aggravate. Help!
PS- all but one litter box is plus size. Figured since Gris is so long he might need a lot of room.
It sounds like they like that location. Is there any way she could switch the boxes out and have you go in another area? When you say new shiny box, what does that mean? Is it stainless steel or just a new box? I think it's time to switch cat litters for all the boxes, not just use that attract stuff but actually change the litter to something different. Once a kitty has box aversion you need to start over with a new litter.
Okay the new box is a new big open plastic box. Mom consulted a vet when going down this road of retraining, and this was mentioned. Mom did switch litters and bought me the new box with no odors in it. She's using the Nature's Miracle litter now and loves it.
I seem to like my box and use it when it is good and clean. The problem is the boys. Mom just thought of something, the boys biggest litter box is a covered box. She original bought it with hopes that I would like the privacy but I never used it. The boys do but rarely. Should she take the top off and see what happens? Mom bought these two litter boxes within a week of each other...maybe she never had enough time to realize the guys didn't like the top. She has read where cats don't prefer the tops because of the waste fumes getting trapped in them.
Second, Mom thought of hiding my box, like maybe up in the closet on the stomach height shelf or in the bottom but she fears two things... one I won't use it anymore and two the boys will find it.
As far as Mom knows I have only illegally peed twice in the last week. But she doesn't want my old habits to have time to be reinforced, that's why I'm in the bathroom during the work day and night. I do use the box while I'm in there instead of the tub (which was one of my older spots)...another reason she thanks she needs help keeping the boys out of my box.
oh my gosh! Get those tops of those other boxes right away. Not many kitties like those and Finney stopped using his box when he got too big for that top. And yes, I don't think anyone would like to be trapped in covered space with stinkies.
Secondly, don't do that and hide your box somewhere like that you'll have a whole host of other issues. Take the tops off the other boxes and tell your mommy now she'll have to keep showing the boys they can go in there and have freedom. Make sure the boxes are away from any walls or corners so they have some room to move.
Okay we will try that.
You said stinkies! Heehee!
MOL MOL MOL, just cause I'm an angel doesn't mean I don't have a potty mouf! MOL MOL GET IT?! Potty mouf! hee hee.
Thanks for helping us realize what the problem is...hopefully.
Yes Dear.....Did I hear you call my name? I am attentive.
We use plastic storage boxes as our litter boxes. Mom heats them with a hair dryer and then cuts out an opening in the side and out of part of the lid. We need to have lids because Rusty does not like to squat and would over-shoot the back of any litter box we gave him. We have used a litter called "Cat Attract" which has something in it that draws us to use it.
Concats on your Diary Pick! Maybe Diary Gal was feeling sad too and felt it was a good way to honor you and those who we are missing.
Congrats on the DDP! I think Alex has some good suggestions - I'd also suggest trying to clean the boxes as frequently as possible - dirty boxes are no fun to go in.
Our litter boxes are tall clear plastic storage container boxes... as I am quite tha high pee'er :D with plenty of room to turn around and around... as we cats like to do!
We gots Tidy Cats Instant Action litter... cause... we needs instant action! :D
We also get the new Tidy Cats litter mixed in, I think it has a lilac label, and it really has a lublee smell : )
MC cleans 'em every mornin' and nite.
MC bought a spray odor eliminator with eucalyptus, I think it was, at Walmart for about 3 dollars. She sprays a touch around the boxes sometimes. If you wanna know tha name... Holla!
Well I am off to tha litter box! All this talk got me wigglin' in my chair! :D
I'm an overshooter pooper and meowmie thanks you for writing about this and is going to try the suggetions from everyfur. Also meowmie just ordered a litter genie - something to scoop the pees and poops into that keeps them in a sealed plastic baggies instead of dumping them into grocery store bags. She is hoping this makes the litter box area less stinky and the rest of the house too. Will keep you posted.
Hi pretty girl I am an over shooter too and I like the drapes and curtains sometimes (mom fights it and hates it but she loves her little boy :) we also have very large storage containers for our boxes and us four kitties have 5 boxes MOL when there were six of us we had 7n boxes and mom or dad cleans them morning and night, some are covered and some are open we all like different stuff and there are two different litters so we can choose which box we like best and of course they are lcoated through out the house 1) in the outside enclosure and the others are in the spare bed rooms and the bath rooms. The guest bathroom downstairs does not get much hooman use and the one upstairs we share with dad and I like to wizz when he does MOL
good luck on the changing your undesirable habits.
Mom says we all can't be purrfect like zach. Phooey on her! I say if he's purrfect then why does he use my box instead of his? Why does be practly live on the counters when he knows Mom doesn't like it?
Now because mom is a sleepy head she cleans the boxes in the afternoons and right before bed which is usually around 10 or 11. She does good if she gets up 40 min before she leaves for work in the mornings. Now mom is slack about washing our litter boxes out.... She has good intentions bit has a tendancy to put it off for days.
Update.... Mom took the cover off the boys litter box added the cat attract to the box. Also she figures since Im in the bathroom that makes them half to use their own bathrooms. Call it a whole family retraining.
Bibi glad we could help. Little boy quit breaking your moms heart by peek g on the curtains.
Love ya guys.
Sweet Zoe, we hear ya! Still a DDP iza ddp, coz we shurly get so sad to see alla our dear furiends haza ta come to da Rainbow Bridge.
We got two big boxes too 'n mommy uses Fresh Step wif crystals 'n it don't smell. Bof o' ours r in da bafroom but we got a big bafroom fur susha small 'partment. Mom won't put 'em in da bedroom. Fur some reason! MOL! Anyfur, hope Ur probs work out, we use our boxes good. But Mallee ona other paw, mom got some probs. Her lines our boxes 'n Mallee scraps holes in da top o' da box liners! Sigh. Mom keeps tapin' 'em up! Geez dat gurly gurl!!
Oh yeah! My mom uses litter liners for Finney and Lacey also. MUCH easier to clean.
Congrats on your DDP today! I remember reading this, but I don't see my comment anywhere - the Mama must have had to run and shut me down before I could respond! Hope things are getting better with the litter box problem. Really glad the itchies are gone anyway!
