Short and sweet, I went to the doc today. I have bad itchy scratces plus Mom noticed two days ago that I'm getting another rodent ulcer on my lip. Mom has always said I'm allergic to everything. Doc is coming to that conclusion too.
He said my scar might be a scar but it should have healed some more by now. That there must be allergens around me that has not been discovered. Mom still thinks it's this house. It's an old house built in the 1930s.
He said we need to try food allergies next. So, after a couple weeks when the shot wears off, Mom will start me on an all chicken diet and we will see what happens. We are looking for reactions or no reactions.
He said it might be the litter Mom said she already noticed allergic reaction to one kind of litter and what she's using now works for me.
Mom mentioned how I get itchy and watery eyed during the spring when the windows are open. He said it's pollen just like with Humans. He said he's not sure about giving me Zyrtec, Mom said she would email him the articles we have about it helping.
Mom said that the flea medicine helps but just isn't curing my allergies completely. Please find something to help, I itchy, I lick, then I yak. Then I scratch and get scabs all over. Doc said I'm just a highly allergic kitty. Dad thanks again for saving me. I can't imagine what it would be like out side by myself with the itches.
Yikes, allergies stink! I have severe allergies to 7 food items and over 20 environmental things (including scented candles, trees, grass, cigarette smoke). Are you in the Cats with Allergies group? Please keep us updated! My allergy story is on Alex's IBD site if you would like to read about my journey and the treatments I am on. Sending purrs, itchies are awful!
I hope you find something that helps with all your itchies.
Lucy, I had no idea. Poor thing. I hope mine isn't as bad as yours. I am part of that group, but don't know how much help it will be sense we don't even know what is triggering my itches. I'll read your story hun. Mom and I will probably pmail you before it's all over.
Thank You Abby for having my back.
By now Lucy has probably talked to you about getting tested. It's probably a good idea--if it's diet related, the tests should take a lot of the guess work out of it.
In the meantime, I just wanted to let you know that I was taking 1/4 pill of chlorphenirame, twice a day (over-the-counter, human Chlortrimeton) to help stop my itchies when I had them bad. You may want to talk to your vet about that.
Also, BK's Mom is really quite the expert (as is Lucy's mom) with this kind of stuff. BK's Mom fosters special needs kitties, particularly kitties with really bad allergies. http://www.catster.com/cats/1010306. She may have some suggestions.
We originally thought I had allergies--particularly right before I developed hyperthyroidism. (Hyperthyroidism makes you really itchy too, so you start making lesions and pulling your fur out.)
Hope you feel better soon--this stuff is no fun.
Sending purrs you can get those itchies under control.
Purrs that you get your allergies under control!! ( Don't let Da Tabbies read bout your new "diet"!! They will spazz!!! MOL!!)
sorry you have to go thru all this girl, I hope the vet can discover the cause so it can be treated and you dont have to suffer so.....hugs from dai$y and the boys
Mom gave me one of my allergy pills from the doc this morning, see we ran out, usually she keeps some her for me or Zach. See, as a kit Zach had allergies too but his was to plastic and Mom got rid of our cute cartoon bowls and bought stainless steel bowls and he was good. Me, who knows what it will take.
I haven't ate breakfast, not hungry. I'm only throwing up water and hairballs now but once the pill starts working I'll eat. Mom says I'll feel better in a hour or two.
I hope you start feeling better...it is no fun being sick.

Mom says I'm acting more like myself. I'm eating and not yaking. I guess the shot and allergy pills are working.
