As most of my friends know, I watch TV with Mom. I'm not a lap cat by no means. I like sitting by myself and looking pretty besides Mom doesn't need me she has Zach, Diamond and Dad to keep her warm. You find Mom and you find Diamond and Zach.
Anyways, my favorite show Whale Wars had a very sad day Fri. night. They were called in to help New Zealand with a rescue. The ship they were looking for was the Bazzark. The crew of the Bazzark took two young guys down to Antarctica to travel the same route that Robert Falcon Scott traveled when he found the south pole. It was the anniversary of this historic event.
The three the remained on the Bazzark ran into a perfect storm type situation down there and they were never found nor the boat either. The New Zealand Navy and Rescue called off the search once the Steve Erwin found the empty Life Raft. They were three Scandinavian men that were in there mid 30's. like Mom. So, it made me think.
I think it was great that they wanted to celebrate Scotts expedition.
And I love that these people go and fight to save the whales every season! They also fight for the seals too but there's no show about that fight.
Ki ts, I think there is a good story behind this though and that is that there are people out there that give up their warm homes, their families and money to go out into subzero conditions to fight, what I think is a very noble fight. If you have ever watch the show and actually seen a whale baited by the baby getting harpooned so they can kill the Mom (that's about the time me and Mom are fighting over the box of tissues)if you ever see it.....it makes you so happy that the whales have someone fighting for them, trying to stop this savageness.
And this story did show the best of these warriors by showing how hard they tried finding this boat and it's occupants. It showed their hearts full of grief. And seeing them jeopardize their own lives to save lives shows a side of humanity that you just don't see that often. It all around us but you just don't see it.
Sometimes you've got to see tragedy to appreciate that lives are spared everyday.
Oh yep very sad. Mom doesn't watch TV too much but Boo and I like to sit and watch it with dad.
Aww, that is sad. My momma and her oldest girl got to go whale watching one time - they said they are very cool animals!

Concats on being a DDP!
Yes Milo I'm the deep one where Zach is as shallow as a mud puddle. I wish they had picked another diary other than mine. Honestly, after the slow weekend I figured nobody would even read it. WHOOPS!
Milo, your right there is good to every story and sense everybody has read this sad story that I needed to modify the diary to show the good.
So, please read the added section at the bottom of the diary.
I highlight the greatness of the human heart.
Concats Zoe!!! We love you and your big heart.
I think I got the subtext of your story, Zoe.
You worry too much. Must be cause of that big heart.
We's luvs watching Whale Wars Zoe!! Sad things happen on that show often & it makes Meowmy cry. Those people are brave to go out there!!
Tutti, Mom went to our Aquarium at the beach and they were talking about Steve Irwin. They said it really was a freak accident. That they usually afraid of humans.
Mom remembers when she was in her early twenties, many moons ago, her and a bunch of friends went sailing in the Chesapeake Bay. They were out so far that you couldn't see land. Anyway, they anchored the boat about a half of an mile out from the island they were going to camp on. And Mom said every once in a while when you took a step, you could see a puff of sand under foot. That was the skeets or rays running away. She said they also seen those florescent green algae that night in the water, they swam in it! Mom says Oh those were the days! No responsibilities but being young.
Jez, Mom has looked into the whale and polar bear tours. They are a little expensive. Did your Mom get good pictures? I hope so!
Guys, you are to kind. Sometimes I wish I could be like others and just turn my true inner core passions off.
Concats on your DDP Zoe! Mom won't watch any shows if animals get killed or injured. She cries every time that animal cruelty commercial is on, too. If you want to see a "feel good" movie with whales in it, Mom liked "Whale Rider." It's an old movie, but she just saw it this weekend. It's not really about whales, but it's filmed in New Zealand and has whales in it ~ I give it 2 paws up! Mom still cried, but they were happy tears!
Sammy, we watch Whale Wars to watch them win but yes on an occasion you do see them die. Mom cries during those commercials too, Dad is really surprising, he'll turn the channel and call it depressing. I think he turns it so he won't cry. Mom says she remembers when Whale Rider came out, your right it is a good movie. We need to see it again though.
Dear Zoe you do sit looking very pretty, so well. And Happy Diary Pick today too!
The whales on the TV show do sound very sad and there are so many human heroes we are all proud of. The magnificent whales do need to be protected; and thanks for writing about these beautiful animals of the world.
Love Tabatha xo
Thank You Tabatha and The Bush Furs.
Congrats on being a Diary Pick today,Zoe!!!!
Yeah they got some good pictures. They went when my oldest girl was up in Boston at law school. They saw a multiple kinds of whales and dolphins. They said it was a pretty cool thing to see - they went on the New England Aquarium's tour and it wasn't too much - it's only $40 per person. Definitely something to consider doing if your momma's ever up in that area during the fall.
Gee, even the retelling of the story makes us sad.
Congratulations on your DDP honor, Zoe!
