Quick Bio:
-purebred
Birthday: October 10th 2003 Coloration: Mackerel Likes: Food Pet-Peeves: not being allowed to go outside. Not getting the food he wants. Favorite Toy: Small animals - to my dismay. (Mice, rats, birds, lizards and squirrels many of which have been saved from his clutches - others have not been so lucky.) UPDATE: Now that he's indoors only there is no more carnage! He loves the TLC Cat-N-Mouse Cat Toy. Favorite Nap Spot: On the bed, on the couch, in his chair, on the refrigerator or on the top floor of the Toyger Towers (4 level carpet cat tower) Favorite Food: Fresh chicken or fish. Skills: Highly intelligent. Monkey like. The rescue organization that found him said, "this one definitely does not belong here. He is very special. We've never seen anything like this. Dwells:
indoors and outdoors Arrival Story: Marsalis was a gift. I typically do not support the purebred pet industry and feel we should be rescuing animals at the shelter instead. Bio: Marsalis was missing for two months and was considered KIA until 3 days ago when his AVID microchip was scanned 20 miles from here. He is back with me now, and I consider this a miracle and blessing from God.
UPDATE: More trouble on the Marsalis front. He became paralyzed suddenly and was hospitalized for 2 days with a saddle thrombus brought on by cardiomyopathy. He was released from the hospital with some improvement, but still partially paralyzed. He later gained back full movement. He is now on 3 different medications for his heart condition including Plavix for humans which is VERY expensive. Luckily he takes a quarter pill at a time - so it's doable. It is said that the life expectancy with his condition is 90 days (without Plavix - using older drugs) - but it was also said that there was less than 30% chance that he would be able to walk normally again - and we beat those odds! I am enjoying everyday with him as if it was his last and have accepted that he may go at any time - yet I'm still very hopeful. You would never know he was sick. He has full movement back and acts like a normal healthy young adult.
UPDATE: Marsalis lasted a good year thanks to Plavix, but passed away yesterday 3/21/12 due to sudden renal failure. A good possibility that it was his blood pressure medication Benazapril that caused this. If you have a cat on this med, make sure to get regular blood tests to check for kidney problems. I didn't because I could not afford it. Marsalis lived a great life for 9 years. He was a good friend to me. He will be missed. Here's a video I made in memory of him:

Marsalis is a very unique cat. He's extraordinarily friendly and is an extremely high maintenance creature.
