Arrival Story:
Catalina was brought into an animal hospital where I work on October 26, 2010. She was completely emaciated weighing in at 4 pounds, hypothermic and near death. Even though she had been through so much, she just wanted to be held. The woman who found Catalina paid for her veterinary bills that day. During Catalina's exam we found she has a microchip. She was traced back to a rescue organization who originally found her wandering the streets in Utah. She stayed with that rescue until they relocated to another state in 2007. Catalina was then transferred to another rescue organization who then adopted her out to someone. Unfortunately the second rescue didn't have the proper paperwork and wouldn't take responsibility for her. Therefore Catalina still belongs to the first rescue and whoever adopted her from the second rescue would not be contacted. The rescue told the woman who found Catalina she could foster her while she was recovering and until they could find a new adoptive family for her. I've never had a kitty before and decided to take Catalina for the weekend to see how the dogs would do with her. Everyone did very well and the dogs adore her. I wasn't sure we were ready for another pet in our family, so I decided to foster Catalina until we could find a home for her. After about a month we decided to adopt Catalina and she is very happy in her new home! Catalina's life on the streets hasn't made her one bit unfriendly towards humans. When she first arrived at her home she did huddle with her head down when the dogs approached her but never hissed at them. I think this may have been her defense when she was on the streets and possibly approached by animals. She's a very sweet, loving and trusting kitty.

A day in the life of Catalina

Catalina had another visit at the vet yesterday. We are happy to report she is doing well and weighed in at 5 pounds. She was dewormed and had her FVRCP vaccination. She had a loose upper canine that was barely hanging on, the vet was able to easily pull it out. She has another loose tooth that will need to be extracted when she is healthy enough to be anesthetized.

When we got home I found Catalina had peed all over in her crate. So she had another bath! She wasn't happy about it of course but at least she's clean. I can tell she is gettting her strength back because she fought the bath more this time than last time!

Catalina is enjoying being snuggled up in a blanket by the heater and snacking on food during the day. The dogs had to sniff her from head to toe when she returned from the vet, they were so concerned as to where she had been and what they did to her. They even sniffed around her mouth, the same area where her tooth was removed.
