Arrival Story:
We adopted Belle back in 2007. Our neighbor owned two cats and had to move to an apartment that couldn't take cats, so we agreed to take Belle. She grew up with her brother, Jacques, and even though I liked Jacques, I simply couldn't take him in as well. Jacques was a disabled kitty and needed a ton of extra care that I couldn't deal with. He went to another home, and has since passed on (RIP Jacques). Belle was 1.5 years old when we took her in. Dann (my husband) decided to call her Bella instead of Belle because he says "it makes her sound more Italian" (so no, we didn't name her after Twilight, you crazy peoples). Since she was constantly in the shadow of her attention-needing brother, Belle seemed completely fine with being alone for the first time in her life, soaking up all the attention she wanted. We indulge her too, maybe a little too much. Bella is a little bit of a miracle, really. Dann has always been allergic to cats his entire life, so when I asked him if we could take Belle, he was hesitant. At first he didn't handle her much and kept her out of our bedroom, but soon he noticed that he wasn't getting the throat-closing reaction he normally gets around cats. Now Dann is absolutely in love this cat. He carries her around and spoils her rotten. He even sticks his face in her fur! "I don't typically like cats, but I like this cat." I can see why.
