Reba picking on her
a mouse she just caught
Favorite Nap Spot:
anyplace comfy, and without distractions
hunting, she catches things almost as big as her on occasion
indoors and outdoors
One day, while Reba and her mom was out in the arena practicing Agility stuff, they heard a kitty meow, over and over and went to see where it was coming from. There, in a pile of boxes was a young cat, not afraid anything, any dog, or anyone. They took her in, fed her, gave her a place to sleep, but didn't get her spayed in time... Named Boxie, for where she was first "found", got knocked up a few short months later and had 6 kittens. (We didn't know cats are pretty much ALWAYS in season until they are, you know, or spayed. Unlike dogs who are bi-yearly) Patches and her litter mates were born in a old dog's bed while the old dog laid there sleeping. Named Patches, because she was the only one in the litter who took on a different coloring, in patches, than her litter mates. All the other babies were gray tabbies like their mom with a white spot here, and a white spot there. Yet Patches stays true to her mom, as all her colors are still "tabby" striped
Boxie went out "hunting" when her kittens were just 5 weeks old one evening and never returned. (Cats normally have a short life-span here with coyotes, owls, etc living so close too. You can take the kitty out of the wild, but you can't get the wild out of the kitty) On a good note, the kittens had already been eating on their own in addition to nursing. Another good note, is the mom had already reserved homes fur the kittens once they could leave their mom, all except for Patches.... So she called the new families, told them what had happened, and the families came and collected all of Patches's litter-mates, one & two at a time.... Patches spent the next couple of weeks, in a covered pen (until she started to figure out how to climb out) in the store, charming customers... SO MANY people wanted to take her home, but mom wouldn't let her go. Today, she is all growed up, and folks still ask about the kitten in the pen... On rare occasions, Patches will hang out at the counter and greet her followers... She does wander on occasion at night, "hunting", but so far so good. And she has also been known to go after the dog (GSD to be exact) who didn't stay in the car like we ask for the sake of them and OUR pets. Mom warns folks who let their dogs out of the car, "we got dogs here & I don't want them upset. but if my cat sees him/her, she'll go after him/her, you can best believe" The look on their face is priceless!
I had a good life until...

me has been gone a while now, yet mom still misses me...
she refuses to allow another kitty in her life where her lives, for fear they would, well, just disappear like me did no matter how hard she tried to keep me safe....
she did all the right things, but us kitties are hunters who needs to go out and hunt... unfortunately, we are not alone in the hunting world... in fact, there are others who look upon US as prey believe it or not! where mom lives anyway.... coyotes, owls as big as small (very very small) cars... anyway...
my fate is still up to speculation... as is my momma's before me... and the kitty who preceded her.... her heart still breaks for all of us... if me could only let her know, we is all together, safe and happy, along wiff Buddy, who was even before us, cursed wiff FL so very young, yet lived to a ripe old age, and keeping each other company until we is reunited again (dogs and all)...
her burst into tears tonight, me wishes me could have rubbed against her to let her know it was o'kay... me misses her too....
the dogs better look out after her or them is gonna be sorry if me gets hold of them....
