Arrival Story: My car broke down one day, and a woman in a house nearby came to help me. Then she mentioned that she had a litter of kittens, and would I like to look at them? Of course! And of course, I ended up bringing one home. :)
The news of the Catster Community closing hit my mom hard. She says she feels like someone punched her in the stomach. It took her about 4 days to get over the shock. She couldn’t eat or sleep. Her eyes were swollen from crying.
As soon as she began to stand up straight again and breathe deeply without sobbing, she received an email on Monday night that I was Catster’s Cat of the Week! She smiled for the first time in days. But then she noticed that Catster had not bothered to update the picture on the Community Homepage, and as each day passes, she loses hope that they are going to. It does feel like someone is saying, “Here, kitty, kitty – come have a treat – JUST KIDDING”. But it’s her fault really, to expect anything more out of them, they are obviously done with the Community. I am lucky to have such wonderful friends who will celebrate with me anyway.
Catster has been a place of refuge for my mom. A place where others are kind, considerate, friendly, helpful. A place of truly great friends, fun, and laughter. A safe and supportive space, the kind you can’t easily find in the world. It’s even been a place of creativity and inspiration for her, with designing pages and being an Admin of some pawsome groups.
Friends gathered around for support when Legolas went missing and it helped her cope with his disappearance. When Jax joined the family, friends were there to celebrate. She does not know how she will cope in life without such a beautiful and supportive community to rely on.
It also hurts her to see others sad and hurting over this. It’s meant so much to so many. My mom strives to be considerate and kind to others, and it boggles her mind that people out there can be so heartless and cause so much pain without caring.
I am sorry it is ending this way Catster, it feels like a bad breakup. But we will be here until the end, to spend these precious last moments with our friends. We love you all, and YOU are what has made this place so beautiful for us. Thank you.
