Not two months have passed since my beloved Baba and I became husband and wife. And not two years have passed since our love grew from friendship as we grew from kittens to adults. Now a tragic turn of events snuffed out his young life and took him from me. I have spent hours looking at our wedding page and looking at our beautiful wedding and pondering our vows. I hold him deep in my heart and he will live there with me forever. I wrote this Ode to My Love, To My Sweet Baba..the first, only and last love of my life.
A little over a year ago,
A light came into my life.
In the form of yellow eyes aglow,
And fur as black as night.
My heart he stole as a thief by night,
His friendship he did proclaim.
He took my paw and held it tight,
From then on I wasn’t the same.
He was always there whether I stood or fell,
With a loving word or two.
And a tender touch that made me well,
On my days of illness, too.
Then out of this friendship a strong love grew,
As strong as the sturdiest tree.
The strongest of storms that ever blew,
Could not destroy this love you see.
Our wedding day I stood by him,
And pledged an Endless Love,
My First and last through eternity,
As pure as a snow white dove.
My love said as he gazed at me,
“I take you now as my wife,
Standing beside you for all to see,
I will remain so the rest of my life.”
“I love you Bastet,” he whispered low,
And I whispered, “I love you too.”
He added, “I will not let you go,
Now that I finally found you.
Some search all their lives looking for one,
But I have been blessed with you.
Forever until the dying sun,
I shall hold and cherish you.”
Not two months passed since that special day,
When our two hearts as one first beat,
Now tragedy has taken away,
A life now incomplete.
Oh, my love, My Endless Love,
You fly with the angels high.
Now, Baba my love, My Endless Love,
A kiss…‘til one day beside you I lie.
