Months ago my meowmie purchased an ebook called Catalyst: A Novel of the Barque Cats (By recognized sci-fi authors Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarbourough). I think the cover is very pretty.
It wasn’t until a few days ago that meowmie finally got to it. This book contains two of her greatest passions: cats and space.
The story develops in a universe with planets adapted for and colonized by humans and their animals. Space travel is a common and accessible to everyone. Barque cats are a special lineage of felines that are bred to live inside space ships. Their duties include killing vermin inside the ship and detecting gas leaks. Every ship has a Cat Person responsible for caring for these cats.
The story starts with Chessie, a valuable pregnant Barque cat who is kidnapped and taken to a farm. Meanwhile, strange shiny, tasty beetles appear all over the colonized planets, space stations and ships. When ingested they have unexpected effects that could have many innocent animals destroyed by the galactic government for fear of an epidemic. A group of human characters will be on a race to save the lives of all these animals. Where do these beetles come from? How are the cats going to escape their terrible fate?
I give the book two paws up, and I’m looking forward reading the second book titled “Catacombs”.

Oh! Oh! My mom loved that book! And Catacombs too. She liked Catacombs even more. I'm so happy that you read it! Don't you think that Ka-Ra seems like he looks like ME- an Abyssinian?
Toki, I picture Pshaw-Ra exactly like you! If they ever made a movie you could play his character :)
And by the way we finished reading Catacombs. I want more Barque cats books. I wish these ladies would keep writing the series. It's so funny.
