Arrival Story:
We decided to get a companion for our Cat Tigger. I searched HUNDREDS of PetFinder and rescue adds. I found a beautiful DMH/Persian mix I FELL IN LOVE WITH! I was in constant touch with her foster mom and one day I got an email saying that she decided to keep her. Then I found a PureBred Cat Rescue 2 hours away from me. I saw her and her brother and sisters pictures and I fell in love. I went and met them. I absolutley adored the male but I knew (even though Tigger is neutered) two males would cause competetion and would be harder to adjust the two of them. And plus we were trying to get a companion for him so I knew a female would make him happier. So it was between her and her sister. Her sister was WAY to aggressive/feisty for my household. So I paid the adoption fee filled out the papers and drove another 2 hours home with her screaming the whole way back. Once we got home she mellowed out a lot and is fitting in good. Tigger is NOT happy about her yet, but we'll carefully and safley introduce them until they are best buds!

The rescue said her story was that her momma and siblings along with around 40 other cats were seized from a "breeder" that had them in unfit conditions. She was raised with little human contact and mostly other cats so coming here to one other cats, six dogs (which she had never seen before) was a MAJOR change. At first she was terribly timid and very noise and or movement we made, made her run and hide. We confined her at first to out bedroom with access to the master bathroom with all her ammenities. And spent hours every day just working with her to trust us. And brought her crated about 20 minutes at a time three times a day out into our main living area (the living room) with all the dogs and us. After about 3 days you could see her beginning to trust us. After a week one day she DESPERATLEY wanted out of the crate on one of her trips in the living room even with all the dogs sniffing around her. Then next day we introduced her to the dogs one at a time uncrated until we knew there was NO aggression or fear. Now Emma LOVES all the dogs, and we are still working on Tigger! Its been almost a month and they can be together just fine but he is still not ok with her hyper behavior.
