Spotted Tabby

Feathers! cardboad, paper, jingly stuff, food, Meowmy's food, scratching posts

Memphis chasing her and beating her up (not on purpose), eye drops, and vet visits.

Favorite Toy:
If it has feathers, it's a win.

Favorite Nap Spot:
Under a table or right by Meowmy's feet

Favorite Food:

She is a very good little communicator -- always able to tell someone what she wants.

Arrival Story:
It was in the middle of a blizzard in the middle of February in the middle of Texas. I had run out to get litter for Memphis, and I had been drawn over to the adoption cages for some reason. I had just gotten a new job and was considering getting Memphis a playmate. When I walked through a door, a fluffy cat walked to the front of her cage and started meowing rather insistently. Wouldn't look at me -- just meowed until I came over to give her some attention. Then I saw her open an eye just a little to look at me and I read her card. She was blind in one eye. The second that someone else walked in and looked at the kittens, she ran away to the back of her cage...only to come back to the front to see me when I was alone. I told myself I couldn't take another cat RIGHT NOW and that this one was sick. I held out for a whole day, then drove back and adopted her. Turned out she had ringworm too. Oh well. She'd picked me.

During the 5 months of life before she met me, Tenny had contracted an eye infection. We don't know if it was kitty herpes that settled in the eye, or if someone or something had hurt her and then the infection settled in later. Either way, Tenny had no vision in her right eye. Rather than have her in a lot of pain every few weeks, her Meowmy decided that her baby can look a little more funny in exchange for a very comfortable life with no worries. And yes, one year on, Tenny has not missed that eye one bit.

We're going to England....and we need your help!

Hi, it's Anna, Memphis and Tenny's meowmy. It's been a busy 2 years since I last updated this blog for the kittens. We are all fine -- Memphis and Tenny are both happy girls. I acquired a boyfriend last year, and Tenny totally has a kitten crush on him. She follows him around. She meows and looks for him when he's not there. It's super cute. Memphis is cautious, but she's always been my baby -- fairly sure she thinks I'm a cat with a balding problem OR that she's a hirsute human baby. I started volunteering for an animal rescue almost 18 months ago, and it's been quite the experience, in a good way! More kittens, less chaos in my apartment!

I finished my master's degree, and I am going to go to England for my PhD. The girls ARE going with me. I won't leave them for the world. That said, the expense of finding an apartment over there that takes cats is bit harrowing. I've set up a gofundme for moving all three of us over as well as my school expenses. I am most concerned right now with moving. I'm appealing to Catster folks, since you understand how important it is to keep the cats together and with me. I may not reach my top goal, but every single penny helps.

This is not a "help or I will get rid of my cats" situation -- that's not even an option. This is a "well, it would be nice if I could go over with more than 2 cat carriers and a suitcase" situation.

Thank you to anyone who helps. I do lurk on the boards regularly; I just haven't had the energy (or time!) to post as much. Writing a 200-page thesis saps you. I love watching all of your kittens grow up and get sad when I see old friends go. Thanks so much for being my friend. Feel free to share this link with other people you know -- we all have friends that don't get the cat thing, but who says they won't get the student thing or the ambitious young woman thing? :)

Lots of love,

Anna, Memphis, and Tenny

The move and my teeth!

Well, we "moved" all right. I ended up at the vet to get my teeth cleaned the same day. :( Meowmy says it's from the 4 months or so I was a stray before she got me -- bad diet, dirty teeth. Memphis doesn't have to get her teeth cleaned at ALL for awhile. Jealous...

On the bright side, I didn't lose any of my teeth; I just had some really black tartar on there. The ride home was a little scary, but once I realized Meowmy was taking me home, I quieted down. Memphis, on the other hand, screamed the whole way.

The new apartment is ok. I feel very safe here. And now that I know that I'm not being kicked out or anything, I am happier. I was very stressed before the move and was throwing up. Now I am much better. Last night, I made Meowmy very happy by cuddling up with her while she was lying down and being like a baby, my head under her chin. I've never done that before -- Memphis does it all the time, but I've never had that much trust.

Oh my stars and whiskers (part deux!)

Cat of the Day!? Oh my. I have a whole bunch of new friends inquiring after me and seeing how I am, and how Memphis is too! This is such a surprise! Our family only just came back to catster a little while ago because Meowmy has been working a job and getting a degree and a whole bunch of other stuff. We miss her when she's away for long hours, but she made it so that it's not soooo long nowadays. And now she has more time to play with us and sit with us, and update our friends on how we are.

Thank you to all my new and old friends on Catster!!
