A Sad Sad Day!
We just found out. We did not know. We are very upset.
We did send a letter to HQ about possibly being a bit more tactful in posting stories, but, truth be told, we had not seen the reportedly offensive material. We do not check out much of this site other than our friends and favorite groups. We just do not have time. To be fair we went to see what the fuss was about.
Yeah. There it was. Pops had told us about the "Artiste'" making his cat into a helicopter to be "closer to God". Well... Hmmm... Uhh... Yeah we would not like it fur one of us. Pops thought the guy was: "A weirdo looking for some press". Maybe so. Truth is that his cat is immortal now.
True but what about the bigger question: Is it acceptable here on Catster?
I think not. My Opinion. Told HQ. For those who argue lets use a Puppy. That offensive? Another mammal? That offensive? Case closed.
Now on to the next one. The Cat Skull. Well... Again what is the context. The story is actually nice. Pops and us are fully vested in the idea of returning to the earth that we take. Yes we choose to cremate in our household, but, you say Potato. So that part is fine with us. Now the skull bit.
The English started this so there you go. I think it is as acceptable as having little wooden boxes with ashes. Seems the writer has them also. So there you go.
We were kicking this around with Pops and he admitted to thinking about what he will do with the next of us to pass the mortal coil. Taxidermy? Freeze dry is the new wave. He says not to worry. We will have a family discussion before hands.
Now back to the discussion. We think maybe at least one of the two stories was a bit over the top. The helicopter cat is just bad taste. Just our opinion.
Should The Tabbies have left? Their Choice. We MISS YOU ALREADY and if anyone is in touch please let them know. We would love to discuss this with them as people who are passionate make the world a better more interesting place.
So there we are. Not a happy day on Catster.
Timmy with consensus of the boys Fitz and Pops.
We did not know that the Tabbies of Trout Town had left. We saw the stories about helicopter kitty and the skull, and thought the owners were a little strange in both cases (well, the helicopter dude was a LOT strange). But the woman who retrieved her cat's skull seemed to be genuine in her love for the departed one. (We've seen captions of questionable taste on I Can Haz Cheezburger, too.)
We're willing to let the tasteless stuff roll off our furry backs for the most part, since it's more than balanced by the friendship and laughs we get from Catster. But we will probably unsubscribe from The Cat's Meow blog. Don't really need to find that in the inbox.
I do hope the Tabbies come back, though. I suppose many of you can keep up with their adventures on Facebook, but we don't go there.
Yes, a sad day, over things that should likely not have been posted here in the furst pawlace. Whatevfur.
We are missing the fishy comments and wit of the Tabbies, and it hurts to see a blank where they had made postings on our things.
The worst of all of this is that now we can't/dom't get any comment notices in our email...sigh...
Hang in there, all of you...we love you...a LOT!
I believe it was a culmination of things and not just those stories. At this point it's the spammers who keep invading our photos, errors constantly, Catster's bad choice of stories for a family friendly site, etc. etc. We'll miss them immensely. Timmy we'll give them your message buddy. Glad to. They are legend here.
The helicopter cat story was very bad taste and doesn't belong on catster. That guy is just creepy. The skull one is borderline. Mom certainly won't put our skulls on the mantel when we're gone. The story would not have been my choice to put here. Is it appropriate for a child to read? With mention of composting and werms doing good work on the deceased and all?
We miss the Tabbies too. They are family. We snuck a peek at their blog because we just needed to see their faces. Here you go
Timmy, you know, things are also super busy here...and that has alot to do with Mom not really having too much time to read things on the Catster main site.
Mommy is upset, very upset. But Mommy feels this way; in the words of the Immortal Carole King 'these are the good old days'. There are things we don't like about Catster, but we know nothing different. We love our friends here, and we are hurt.
When one leaves, when two leave, then to me, it's saying how much do you care about all of us? Because that is how we feel.
Mommy does not often go onto facebook, because she doesn't like to be sent sad animal stories, and there are just so many right now she can help except for sending the posts on to others, which we will always do.
Instead of looking at what is wrong, can't we see whats right? We ignore spam, we just yawn and move on. When stuff is posted we don't like we may make a statement, but we do our best to ignore it.
We love the Tabbies, and we need them here. That they choose to leave...that their mom chooses this, to me, I am sorry, but as much as we love them, and they feel they are making a statement with it (and we understand statements, love the tabbies much...very much.....more than can be said...we feel this was sad and it hurts us, because it's as though we, none of us, matter to them. Perhaps this isn't meant that way, but thats how it feels. We had a story for them for their news channel, we admired Daisy, and well, this is painful.
Listen, cats, if you don't like something, work to change it, but don't just....quit. Winners never quit.
we love all of you...and as a bunch of fellas here who are FIV+ and Senior and well, one rambunctious kitten, we need you all.....we need you much~ please don't ever forget that.
Well said Timmy. And Orange Ruffy dude, we feel the same as you... we try to ignore the stuff we don't like and stay here for our furriends!
ozzy who is staying put!
Orange Ruffy said that well and we feel the same way, we never go over to the catster home page but we miss our friends that are leaving why do they not love us anymore, we can make a change I just know it together we all have a very loud MEOW!
I didn't know about the stories until the Tabbies said they were leaving either. I wish they weren't, I'll miss them.
We jus' found out, Timmy T~! When we found email dat Smokey Joe hada comment on him pishure 'n it wuz Tabbies mommy tellin' us dey were gone 'n leavin' dere blog spot fur us to visit~! Oh how sad, coz we love Tabbie too 'n dey funny 'n liven up our dayz here on Catster. We're gonna try 'n find 'em on FB too. At least dey haza blog so we can keep up wif dere antics~!!! For whatefur personal reasonz might be, we r always so furry sad to see any o' our Catster furiends jus' up 'n leave. I don't think mommy haz da heart to do dat efur....live 'n love on tabbies~!!
Purrz 'n bonkz,
MILO 'n Smokey Joe 'n MALLEE, SAM, Timmy 'n Ziggy
Im glad to see that it is not just us that kinda feel 'abandoned' when our friends leave. I guess I do understand that if you are so angry you feel no other recourse. I don't have time to visit a bunch of blogs, and we are not on fb - matter of principle, and I rarely even look at the homepage. I just enjoy visiting my friends, and trying to help answer a question or be here for support. We luvs u all.
Thanks for all the great comment furends.
We will visit the Tabby's Blog but still hope they do return. We sent an email to HQ and requested a response so we are all waiting for that. Wonder what they will say.
I do not know what is up with Spam? We have never had spam on our stuff? Maybe we are just lucky. We also practice very tight e security.
Love you all!
We don't have spam either. Never had it. Tastes kind of yucky I imagine. We don't have time either to check 400 blogs, and we're not on FB. But we will check in on the Tabbies. Have a great Sunday, everypurr.
We will miss their comments terribly....I didn't see the material that was mentioned. It is sad when one of us leaves...I don't like FB much because I don't feel that it is secure enough. We love this place so much....
Just read those two stories.....They were not our cup of cream....We don't read much that is on the front page....We go to community and our friends' pages....We just skip over the home page....We don't have the time to read everything.....
We never reads anything on here other than our furry close furriends diaries, and posts in one or two groups we belongs to - we likes to be pawsitive and Catster ish supposed to be safe fur a child of 7 - we finks that may have changed since we joined but we dun looks around here, just to be on the safe side. Yew will never, ever find ush on FB - Meowmy loathes it and besides, it'sh fur humans, not kitties.
We have our settings to that the community page is our home page - it's too bad that HQ is posting distasteful stories on the main page - and that sort of thing drive members off the site - we didn't know the Trout Town Tabbies, but we do understand their wanting to leave. Meowmy will never take our pages down - too many wonderful memories. Efurryone has to do what is PURRsonally comfortable for them, and I think, as furiends, it's good to respect other's choices, even if it might not be what we want. Lots of our old furiends never come here any more, but we still manage to have fun here, even if Meowmy spends way too much time on Tumblr MOL!
And one thing that helps ush, ish that we no longer pay fur Catster! We didn't know about the awful helicopter shtory but now that we does, we sent a furry strong letter to HQ - we dun really finks they will listen, but we shtill had to do it. We totally understand why people would leave because of the direction the site ish going in - furry sad shtuff, yesh......
