Arrival Story: I was recently separated from the girls Figgy and Moo who went with my ex during the split. At the time I had one feline friend, Inky, who had been with me for 20 years. I was concerned that he needed someone to keep him company when I was at work so had been thinking about what to do as he was older and of not an even temper. He was a bit aloof if I may be so bold. The young woman who was renting next door had been talking to me about cats and such since she had moved in and one day approached me about "taking a feral kitten". I was unsure and put her off. She was persistent. I was concerned about the age difference, if Ink would adjust, all those things that one is concerned with an older cat. Well she sealed the deal with an insurance policy: "If it does not work out I will take him back". How could I say no?
I went in to meet "Potter". Well he would not come out from under the chair. She reached in and he gave a little "hssssss"! Here was a little orange puff with a big "meoweelettmeeeegooooooo" I looked. He yowled. She said "I will hand train him" OK I go back home.
Two days later and I figure it is all over and I wave when I get home, and, of course she remembers that I agreed, shucks. She says "Give him a chance". I do. He comes in with a really different cattitude. He is curious about all the new smells and all the new things to crawl under and, of course, Inkster, who I may add is not amused. Well I renamed him Timmy Tom the first day and he did not torture Ink. Not too much anyhow. The first night he slept in some spot and was there in the morning. The second night he came to bed with Ink and I. He wanted petting so he ended up next to me and fell asleep against my right hand.
Now he is a bigger healthy boy. Not a big cat but very energetic and he is the curious one. Any door left open and he is in there. Drawers must be kept closed or he goes inside the dresser(and yes he did disappear and cause worry until he was heard crying in back of the closed drawer) He loves a box to sit in and I have to set every box down for a day so he can just sit and observe from this vantage point. He comes to bed every night for a pet and then is off in the night being the great hunter(Inside hunting only) watching for the errant bug that wanders into the place. He then comes back and goes to sleep in his spot and is there in the morning.
Give a kitten a chance! If you are 1/4 as rewarded as I have been you will be awestruck!
He was with me when Ink passed and really helped me with that loss. He is a real wonderful guy
Bio: Tim is a Feral success story. Born in an alley under a trash bag he still loves the sound when I take the laundry out of the bag and just has to sit on the crinkly plastic bag. He loves to push around in any big bag so right from the beginning I have never left him alone with one big enough to get inside by accident. He has transitioned nicely to the brown shopping bag cave that I keep in the living room. Tim and Toby rotate temporary ownership and I replace them when a big charge in rips them in half.
