Alex's mommy here, I need purrs and prayers. My dad is in the hospital tonight. They think it’s another stroke, I just got home. He scared the heck out of me, he passed out while they were taking blood at the hospital. His blood pressure is all over the place and he’s having very blurry vision. He’s got to stay there for now. His bp went up to 219!!! He had this in 2006 so they think it’s another stroke but the blurry vision has the doc worried about something called aortic something or other, I can’t remember. But it can make someone blind. EKG and cat scan are clear, just waiting for the lab work to come back. My sisters are there, I had to come and be with my mom. He's going to turn 85 in June and I know he and I butt heads like there's no tomorrow but sooner or later I'm going to lose him and I would still like it to be later. If you guys can spare some purrs and prayers I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everyone, I have pawsome friends here. Luv you all!!!
Not only are we pawyering and purraying, our meowmy will send prayers too...hope he will be feeling a lot better, so he can soon come home.
Hugs to you, Lisa!
Pipo, Minko & Meowmy Ingrid
We are purring and purring that he will be okay. Mom will keep him in her prayers. Keep us posted.
Purrs are magical. Sending them your way that your Dad will be okay. XOXOXO
We're purraying BIG TIME!!! Luv, Tink & Snow
It's 11:30 pm and we took him to the hospital before 6!!! He's just now getting into a room!! Jeez! Blood tests look good, CT scan is clear, EKG is fine. MRI tomorrow morning, most likely another stroke.
Sending love and prayers for your dad and your family. Us kitties are purring up a storm for him too!
Tigger and Mom Gina
Lisa, did he get into the hospital in time for the stroke medicine? Isn't there something they can give him to help within 24 hours if it's a stroke?
Sending purrs and prayers that he can get through this and be okay. Praying for yur mom, too, that he do well quickly. Sick human moms and dads can be really scary!
For crying out loud! He's still not in a room. He must be ready to pass out again but from exhaustion. My sister just called and said that they THINK it's a blood pressure thing. Don't ask me how they can tell that but he's not having slurred speech or sagging face or anything. But before they do the MRI in the morning they have to do some tests to see how much titanium is in his leg from when he broke his femur a few years ago from falling down the stairs. Yup, welcome to my house. Always something between all of us. Gina do you remember the name of that pill? I can't think of it but now I remember something about that. They didn't give him anything as far as I know.
OH and guess what Midnight has been doing for the last 2 days? Getting all up in my dad's face and yacking her brains out to the point of knocking stuff off his desk. She wouldn't leave him alone. Coincidence? I don't think so. She's a smart girl.
I don't know that name of the drugs, but when I looked up stroke it said that there's a window of opportunity to use thrombolytic or clot busting drugs.
Midnight is one smart kitty!
what the heck? now is not the time for Catster fleas and these stupid error messages!!!
well I can't post I don't know what the heck is going on, this is nuts.
Hugs purrs and prayers from all of us in my family. So sorry to hear about your dad, it is very scary and all of us always want more time with our parents, I (mom) will pray for him too we believe in the power of prayer and faith in God Praying for your peace to we know how scary this can be.
7 hours later and he is STILL not in a room!!! I'm getting mad.
2 am and they are JUST NOW putting him in a room. I had to call the hospital and really let them have it!!!! I am livid and they know it. unreal. I'll let you all know how the MRI goes tomorrow, I can finally go to bed. thanks everyone, keep purring and praying. He still needs it.
Sending Big purrs and prayers to your Dad (and your family)!! We hope he recovers well and quickly!
Lots of purrs from our family. And yes it sounds like Midnight was on to it. Never under estimate a cat. Lots of purrs. I hope he has a good nights rest. Shame he had to wait so long for a bed.
I missed your post last night. How is your dad today? I can't believe that it took so long for him to get a room. Let me know if there is anything that we can do. My dad had mini strokes which took a toll. Let us know how the MRI goes today. I found that if a family member is there that things get done better. Unfortunately, we have experience in this area. Any advice let us know.....
Sending all our best and biggest purrs and hugs to you from our family.
Sending all our best and biggest purrs and hugs to you from our family.
Sending prayers, purrs, and hugs your way!!!!
The window for clot busting medications to be effective is about 3 hours, they are given intravenously, and only under specific conditions, as they themselves can be dangerous and have side effects. IE: You wouldn't want to give them if the stroke was caused by a bleed, instead of a clot, etc...
Sure hope he is doing better this morning.
PS: Midnight IS wise!
Purrs coming your way.
Purring for you here, and prayers from the people. Want you to know you are in our thoughts.
the KG Cats and mom and dad.
Sending mega purrs to your dad! Plavix is the name of the medication that's given in the 3 hour window after a stroke. Pipo describes the conditions under which Plavix would or wouldn't be given and the side effects. If it is a stroke, the initial CAT scan would show whether it was caused by a clot or bleeding in the brain. Purring that your dad is feeling better today!
I don't think Plavix is the one, I believe there is another one, I just can't remember the name. But he’s a lot better today, they don’t know if it was a stroke or not. They may not be able to do an MRI because of all the titanium in his leg from when he broke his femur. It took 8 hours to get him into a room and not until I called the hospital and totally told them off. My poor sisters were there until 2 am!!!!! I was getting ready to put my clothes back on and go down there. Anyway it may just be a bad blood pressure episode but his eyes are still blurry. They did a CT scan last night along with blood work and an EKG, ALL ARE CLEAR, ALL OF IT. So MRI would show a stroke but we don't know if they are going to do it. sigh. Come to find out, his blood pressure meds have not been adjusted in YEARS. Which makes me mad at his current doctors.
Sending purrs. It could be a stroke or a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Its sort of a mild form of a stroke. My mom has had a couple. Make sure your dad is on blood thinners, if able. Warfarin (Coumadin) is a popular one. Also aspirin. Issues with his blood pressure could cause his eyes to be blurry. Usually a stroke causes issues with one side of the body. It'll weaken it. Some people get the slurred speech. My mom gets it slightly when shes tired. If he had a mild stroke or a TIA, he can get physical therapy to regain function. Don't worry. He is in the best place he can be at the moment. If you need anything, email me. Purring for your dad!
Hunter & Kelly
Hi Hunty and mommy Kelly! He doesn't have any physical symptoms. He's had mini strokes before so we know all the signs. He doesn't have slurred speech, any drooping, nothing on the side of his body. they are not giving him anything yet, his blood pressure came down on it's own. They want to make sure they know what they are dealing with before giving him anything. A TIA is probably what he had in 2006, not sure if that's what is happening now or if it's just the BP. I didn't realize BP can go so wacky like that on it's own but I know that an extremely high BP can actually cause a stroke. I'll be going to see him around 2 pm. I'll let you all know how he's doing but my mom says he's doing very well this morning. Just very hungry and obviously tired.
I'm glad hes doing better this morning. I don't blame him for being tired. I would be too. Maybe his blood pressure medicine needs to be adjusted and he should probably be monitored more regularly for that. High blood pressure can cause lots of issues. Hope things get better for him.
lots of purrs and prayers
Hunter & Kelly
Also could be something like diabetes or funky heartbeats (mom says these are arrhythmias). If da heartbeat is funny it can make all kinds of stuff happen to blood pressure. If he has other problems like parkinson's dat can make folk get tired and faint. One thing for sure - if he on medicare dat hospital gonna soak it for all it's worth!
Sending lots of purrs to your Dad.

Wonderfur mews that your Dad came home, Lisa!
And feeling better was even better to hear.
Answered prayers fur sure!
This is the term for the clot busting drug therapy:
tissue plasminogen activators(tPA)
They include the following medications, not sure which ones are used the most...
The thrombolytic drugs include:
tissue plasminogen activator t-PA:
streptokinase (Kabikinase, Streptase)
You might find them interesting to look up...I think the streptokinase was the 'original' one.
The ase means they are enzymes, I think.
Will keep praying that all will continue to improve/stabilize/go well!
Ingrid, meowmy of Pipo & Minko
Sleep well, tonight!
Sending lots of purrs and prayers from Texas, please keep us updated.
So glad that gramps is home where he beeelong! Purring that you mom's gets to step it down a notch! Luvs from all of us!
So my grampy went to the eye doctor first thing this morning. She said he was INCREDIBLY LUCKY, it was a close call. My mom was the one who insisted on getting him to the hospital and the doctors told her she saved his life. His BP was 219 and wayyyy up and wayyyy down. It almost caused a rupture in his eye with the macular degeneration. Docs said he almost had a massive stroke and that would have been the end of him. He’s on new meds and his bp is still coming down to normal, it’s almost there but it’s a heck of a lot better. Many times he’s been near death but this is the time that scared my mom the most. He kept passing out, he looked like he was having a seizure, scared the poopie out of her. So we are all watching him like a hawk, including Midnight who is a furry good nurse too. MOL. Thank you for all the purrs and prayers. We hope he's on the road to recovery and doesn't have anymore of these episodes.
Wow!!! That sounds like it was a close call. We are so thankful that you guys got him in ontime and that he is getting back to normal now. We are sending big rumbling purrs that he stays healthy and no more close calls/scares. You and Midnight gots to be on night patrol from now on ;)
Purrs and Headbonks,

Has he had his carotid arteries checked for any blockages? I have been through much of this with my mom too. Also if there is not sufficient blood flow, it can cause visoin issues. I can give you some more info on what I know if you want. Shoot me an email if you need me. purring for your dad & you too girlie. Renee
Sending big purrs your way my dear friend!
