And so it begins

Oh lord. Here we go! There's one thing about the state of NH that's both terrific and terrible! POLITICS. Right now there are a zillion news crews, protestors, supporters, and most of all politicians (BLECH) literally 5 minutes from our house having their first debate. Now mind you, when mom was a restaurant manager and a writer for the local newspaper, she kinda liked it cause she made a TON of money from them holding rallies and meetings at her restaurant. She also got invited to all kinds of stuff and met a lot of people.

So this is just the beginning and for the next year and a half we'll be clobbered here in Manchester with this stuff and that's all we'll see on our local tv. NH and especially Manchester is a HUGE political place since we hold the primaries here. Oooohhhh, the same commercials over and over and over a bazillion times until we want to throw up! The yelling, the screaming, the fighting. I think we're gonna have to watch a lot of Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, Loony Tunes, our favorites. At least they won't have those things on (I HOPE).

I want to say thanks also for the prezzies I got for my party that wasn't my birthday yet, MOL! Thanks to: my Gumpy Goo of course, to Mr. D, Kaci Sunshine & family, Sleeper & Samhain (two really fun partiers I might add), Teebo, Callie & Rose, Annabelle & family, Keisha & family, and Tasha. Please if you've already come to the party and got me prezzies, don't spend anymore zealies Friday when it really IS my birthday! You already did enough okay? Just come to Finney's party and that will make me happy. Of course if you WANT to I can't stop you, MOL! *giggles*. Just kidding, I only want you all there with us having a good time.

Anyways, thanks again for the pawsome party cause boy oh boy was it fun!!! We loved that a lot of our new friends came. You guys really know how to shake it!!! MEOW!!! Love you all!

Lacey, you don't get a prezzi from us until it's really your b-day. Otherwise it's bad luck. That's what Mom thinks anyway.

Hey, I thought we here in Iowa were first for something in politics. What was it? Primary, causus? Something like that. Mom doesn't pay too much attention because she's not allowed to vote anyway (not a American citizen). Yes, those ads are so annoying. Bet they'll start here in Iowa soon to.

Pumpkin, do your furry feet feel fine?

Yes, you better rest of up Pumpkin! MOL! We're gonna pull you out on the dance floor. Mietzi I don't think the caucuses are the same thing and I don't really get it either. Mom's gonna have to look it up but I think the causes and the primaries are two different things. But way up north from us in Pittsburg NH, they are the very first ones in the country to vote every time.

I got it Mietzi!!! Here's what the difference is:

In a caucus the party members gather together for face-to-face meetings in each precinct. Different caucuses operate differently. For example, Republicans at each of the 1,784 precincts of the Iowa caucus meet up, and after discussion, place their vote into a hat by secret ballot. The Iowa Democrats have a much more interesting process. At each precinct the voters gather into "preference groups" and then try to convince others to join their group. Groups that don't pass a "viability threshold" of usually between 15% and 25% must disband and the individuals must join one of the remaining groups. At the end the delegates are apportioned according to the size of each preference group.

All states (and before that, colonies) used to vote by caucus. However in many places the caucuses turned too corrupt, and were then replaced by other systems. The more common system today is the primary, where people walk into an election booth and cast a vote.

I bet it can be a little crazy in your state. Geez, we get so annoyed with all those commercials during the political season, but living in a state that holds a major primary....whoa! But, like you said, it sounds like it can be terrible and terrific. I bet it could be fun when you get to be front and center for some of that.

Let's see, I still have to give you a prezzie because it's not your birthday...yet!

Gumpy! MOL. You don't have give me anything but Gumpy hugs.

It is crazy, mom turned on the 11 pm news and absolutely NOTHING about anything else that happened today except that stupid debate. The thing is that if they were really debating and not just spewing venom all the time, it could be very interesting. But it's the same old same old and some of these candidates don't even know their NH history! It's a little ssssstttoooooooopid (thanks tabbies, MOL) when they think they're being so smart but they need to pick up a history book! MOL. Anyways, it's annoying. It's all over the place. But last time they were here, mom was downtown doing errands and she met Tom Brokaw. Oh my god that was a big thrill because to her, he's one of the last truly great journalist. She said he was really nice and so interesting to talk to! She told him our grampy was in WWII and his eyes lit up cause he did that book "the last great generation". Grampy would never talk about his war days but mom was like "DAD! IT'S TOM BROKAW"! He's like "NO!" MOL. oh well. She has a picture of Peter Jennings from the Al Gore running days and she emailed his family a copy of it after he died. He's all smiles and having fun, they were really happy to get it. So yeah, it has it's fun and exciting moments for sure. She was at the Al Gore primary party and she said the energy in the room was like nothing she ever felt in her life. So energized it was incredible! She said she could use some energy right now, she's all out! MOL

Thanks Skylar! Mom is already working on the dance music for this next party.

Blizz trust me, we're just as bad here as soon as it gets started. And as predicted, I have seen nothing but that debate and the whole junk about it since last night.

Thank god the Bruins were playing last night so there was something else to talk about.

Lacey, I meant for you to look at the background of my page, not pic!!! Kinda looks like you after pigging out!! MOL!!

I know Gypsy that's what I was doing. But the white part of the page is covering the rest of it. Can you see the whole thing when you look at it? MOL, that's nice! Send me the link to where you got the background so I can see the whole thing! That was me on Saturday night, MOL MOL MOL. Not done pigging out on cake yet sweetie!

Blizz the Bruins have been losing for years now, don't know what the heck happened to them but they seemed to be coming back with a vengeance. Boston teams are like that. They either lose big or win big! For awhile there it was ALMOST all of them winning: The Sox, the Patriots, the Celtics and all we needed was the Bruins which last year they stunk. It would be nice to see them get the cup, it's been a really long time.

We do see what is happening in New Hampshire and wonder.....Being from Massachusetts, you know how we are....We live near Deval Patrick and am glad that he is nearby. Snow removal is wonderful in our town. My owners are very political and try their best to contain their feelings but our owner is a teacher and a vice-president union rep so she tries her best.....

Glad to know that your owner got your birthdays straightened out....Happy B-day to the both of you....Natasha and Alex.

Natasha, I figure you're in the same boat with constant political ads. NH and MA pretty much do the same thing, it's just that NH has the primaries but MA might as well too. Glad you like Duval Patrick, seems like he's trying harder this term. We LOVE our governor Lynch. He was voted in a 3rd term because BOTH parties love working with him. He's a very nice man who fights hard for us here and is so humble and always looks at all sides of issues. He finally got the mill up north sold to a good company who's going to give hundreds of people back their jobs after almost 5 years! He fought hard for that.

Thank you guys! Mom has to write a new diary.

Lacey
