Update on cousin Midnight, it's good!

Hi everybody! We figured we'd give an update on cousin Midnight since so many of you have been purring for her. We wanted to wait until we were sure she was heading in the right direction.

About a week and half ago the vet gave mom some prednisone and Flagyl to start her on and ever since she's been improving by leaps and bounds. The difference was noticeable within the first day that she didn't feel so tired and cramped and the second day even more so. Then by the third day she was eating like a hog and stopped vomiting (god, knock on wood that this isn't jinxing it)!!! She hasn't thrown up once since we started the med, she's not even taking pepcid anymore!

We have to keep her on these meds for 4-6 weeks and then start tapering down to see if we can get her off of them but for now we're not worrying about that. She's gaining her weight back, she's talkative, playing and once again LOVES her belly rubs! She's so cute mom said she's a little hoover with food now.

So we wanted to say a big, giant thank you to all of our furriends here for the wonderful love, support and purrs you've given her. Our family loves her very much, she's a sweetpea! Especially grammy, god those two are joined together at the hip. Midnight thinks grammy is her personal lounge chair. MOL!

She's really funny when she gets her pill. Mom puts the pred and flagyl in an empty gelcap cause she said it's better that way, she doesn't have to taste the yuckery pills. Then she puts it in the pill popper, grammy holds Midnight sitting up on the bed with a towel in front of her so she can't struggle and scratch to get out. She just sits there now while mom dips the pill popper in cottage cheese, opens her mouth and FLING, down the hatch. Middy has gotten smart though and they have to make sure she swallows it. A couple of times she looks like she did and then she just opens her mouth, sticks out her tongue and PLAH, out it comes, MOL.

Now when she sees mom coming with the pills, she walks over to the bedroom like "let's get this over with!" Such a good girl, better than I'd be, that's for sure! Thanks again everyone, we'll keep you posted and once in awhile if you could do a "maintenance" purr for her, that would be great. Just to make sure she keeps getting better. You know how this whole thing goes. Always a roller coaster tide!

We love you all and are so lucky to have a massive supply of purr machines to help!

PPPPUUUUURRRRRR to all of you if you need them!

Luv Lacey and furmily!

Thanks Tink! She's as sweet as they come and our family really loves her. She does wonders for grammy and grammpy's health too. Calms his blood pressure and helps grammy with her heart! I never told you guys that when Moufasa was alive, he warned grammy her heart was about to start racing. She was wondering why the heck he kept staring at her and was sitting like inches from her face, he never did that! But it was her heart and she was able to get some aspirin and medicine fast because of it. Poor Mouf, we miss him so much!

I know, isn't it nice for a change Charley? We figured instead of bad news (which we're sick of talking about), we'd give some happy mews!

Mouf really loved you all so much, I know you miss him. It is hard to let us kitties go even when it is better for us, it's just so painful for those we leave behind, until we can meet again.
It sure is good to hear that good news about Midnight.

He did Skids, he really did. He was a big ball of love and couldn't get enough of it from us! He was so vocal and just ADORED my mommy because he knew she gave him 2 extra years of quality life and love. Sigh. Mom swears sometimes she can still hear him. She asked him and our Alex to help Midnight too and I believe that they have.

Thanks Gumpy! As you can imagine, mommy is so super happy. As you know, mom has been doing A LOT to take care of her and Mouffey and now that Mouffey is gone, it was making mom so sad and depressed to think Midnight would go so soon after. Hopefully not for a long time! Whoo hoo! The POTP works!!!

Mom knew she shouldn't have opened her big mouth! She just went downstairs to give Middy her medicine and she'd thrown up all of her breakfast. First time in weeks! Sigh. Oh well, hopefully it's just this once and she's just a little queasy.

Big mouth or no big mouth, the fact remains--Middy is eating, she's doing better and feeling perkier. Getting better doesn't always happen in perfect straight line progression. Sometimes it zig-zags too.

That yark could've been a hairball, no?

It's good to see your Mom sounding happier.

We're keeping the purrs going for you.

Headbonks...

Guess what! Now she's peeing outside of her box and peeing A LOT! Ugh. I feel like we can't catch a break and just enjoy things for awhile. Always the way isn't it? I don't know why she's suddenly doing that. I wonder if the pred is doing this?

I'm thinking the pred is behind it. One of the side effects is fluid retention and when we were giving it to Emily for the itchy bumps, she kept having accidents in the house. Pred is great for some things but can causes problems on its own. I wonder if methylpred would be any better? It's the most broken down form of pred so the side effects should be less than with pred. Just a thought...
