Those steroid injections that killed 5 people and are making everyone sick with fungal meningitis...one of them could have been my mom. My mom's last epidural was in February of this year but in July she was thinking of getting another one. She didn't though, she fought the pain and started walking again and stretching even though it was hard. Now she's so thankful that she did that!!! She could be one of the ones that got sick or worse!!! If some of you don't know, there is a lab in Massachusetts that compounds methylprednisone for spinal injections and other pain management. They are the cause of a fungal meningitis outbreak that is now expanding outside of New England. Mom is freaked out!!! We know a few people that live in Massachusetts and in New England that also go for these injections and we purring that they are okay!!! Please purr for all of these people! This is serious stuff. Mom is so thankful she's okay and so are we.
This is so frightful & scary!
I am going to call my doctor & ask about this as you know Finney, my Mommy Liz gets her monthly shots too for trigger pain relief not eppie shots, but still a great concern.
I will pray for all those who have been affected by this!
Wut in God's green earth is this?
Nothing seems safe anymore! ): ): ):
Thank you Finney's Mommy for your heartfelt concern for all of us here!
We are thankful to you too!
Purrs Of Love,
ღ Kally Kat & Mommy Liz ღ
Kally, your mommy is one of the people we are concerned about. We are furry worried for her and are purring for her big time that she is okay!!! We're so upset by this and so worried, Please let us know if you talk to your doctor and what they find out, okay?
Luv you guys!!!
That is so horrible...now we heard that there are cases in MI, too...good thing meowmy isn't having issues like that.
Glad your mom isn't either.
Well my mom may still need to have it done in the future but for now she is doing okay. She's hoping that if she keeps walking and stretching she can do without it for a long time. Now she's kinda scared to ever have one again knowing what she knows.
The saying goes...knowledge is power, but sometimes it is scary beyond measure:(
Yet, if we didn't know, that would be a lot worse.
OR "you're darned if you do, you're darned if you don't!"
Kally they just said it's been expanded to other types of injections so it's best to call your mommy's doctor sweetheart!
OMC how very scary! Gram had one of those last year. I never realized something like that could happen.
We never thought of anything like this either Skylar! And much to our shock, we found out that compounding pharmacies can be licensed and registered but are NOT regulated by the FDA.
Oh dears! I'm glad your mommy didn't get them, that would have been NO good at all! You stay healthy Mommy Finney!
OMyCatness~! We didn't knowz 'bout all dis, Finn~! Thanks fur da warnin' 'n we purrin' fur all dem peeps too~! It's alwayz good to check stuff out, sweet Kally Kat~! Hope Ur sweet mommy can get through all dat pain wifout havin' dat stoopid stuff done~! WeBees iz so rite, knowledge iz power~! Yeah efen feelin' bad her still can manage to smile, coz our furiends here r dat important!!~
Purrs 'n bonks,
MILO 'n MALLEE too
Well mom fell off a ladder backwards today. Hurt her foot pretty good but it'll be okay. Her back is sore but I think it'll be okay too. She had to help her sister take out her giant air conditioner that her sister started taking out by herself and it turned into a horrible fiasco. Mom is so tired of having to do all this stuff. She's too old for this anymore. There is NO ONE to help us either. Nobody. Bees on the roof that keep coming in here, things falling apart, windows breaking, etc. Mom is so tired she just feels like crying her eyes out right now. Sorry to unload on you guys, she's just so overwhelmed right now and sick of it. Grampy and grammy are too old and there is no money at all to hire a handy man. sigh. I hate seeing mommy like this. I have been kissing her all afternoon and licking her tears. Does anything ever get better? Sorry guys, it's just one of those days, that's all. We'll be okay.
That IS terribly scary, Finney!! Keep a close eye on da Mommy at ALL times!! I NEVER let my Mama outta my sight....NEVER!! Only a-when she leaves da house, and I HATE when she leaves da house!!!
OMC - My mommy was supposed to get one a couple weeks ago, but she was scared and decided to wait it out and take more pain meds. That's very scary. Thanks for letting us know Finney.
Hope your mommy is okay - sounds like she's getting frustrated, just like my mommy!
Mommy is okay Bonnie, she's just have a REALLY bad day. She'll be alright. stupid house! I swear sometimes it's alive and just makes things worse all the time.
Siggy this is not good news for your meowmy who is in so much pain. You know what you do Siggy? Have your mommy call the doctor and ask specifically where that injection will be mixed!!! If it's not at this lab in Massachusetts then she'll be okay. She's having a rough time and we hate to see her suffering so much if she can help it. Besides, that lab has been closed down now so they are not making anymore injections.
Purrin' fur U Finn 'n Lacey 'n mommy~! So sorry to hear her had sush a bad day!! Take care o' her 'n hope her foot 'n back gets better, time to REST 'n take a load off~ It doez get better, ya know..some dayz r diamond 'n some dayz r stone, as dey sez.
OMC! That is awfur fur your Mom, Finney:(
Maybe some ibuprofen will be helpfur, meowmy finds it helps her ouchies the best...taken with a meal, it doesn't bother her stomach too much.
Her doc even said if the pain was bad she could take 600 mg of ibuprofen with 500 mg of tylenol at the same time, OMC! But when meowmy really is sore from work or chores gone wrong it does really work.
(Not more than 4 times in 24 hours, though...)
We know about these homes that drive the peeps mad with all the issues...fix one thing and the next is waiting to rear its head.
The most fun, (not), meowmy has had in the past few days was trying to make it ready for pawppy, you know - handicap accessable, gads! Our bathroom is barely big enough for a mouse...
Be carefur, mom of Finney and Lacey, they need you!
Purrs & POTP to her, too!
Hugs to all!
We do live in Massachusetts but my mom had back surgery many years ago. When her back aches, she uses ice on it for twenty minutes. You should do that since you hurt it today. The first twenty-four hours you should use ice, never heat.
As for house repair, it seems to be endless. My mom and dad had owned their home for many years. They just had someone cut branches and trees around it. It was expensive but reasonable for the amount. It does get easier when you hire someone. My mom and dad couldn't do that for years and now they have to. No one here will go up a ladder...They aren't like us when it comes to heights.....You take care of yourself...and don't hurt yourself...
Thanks everyone, mommy is starting to get really sore now since it happened earlier today. she took a nice hot shower and took some of the leftover medicine the doc had given her earlier this year for her back. Knocked her out though, she's in la la land, MOL. Not a bad place to be considering the caca day she had. Pipo, this is the problem around here with having two people in their 80s also. Mom cannot continue to do everything anymore, it's too much. She's by herself and can't do it all. She WAS gonna go for a walk today. She may have to wait a couple of days to do that now but doesn't want to wait too long for her back to get stiff again.
That's a good idea, mom will put some ice on it now.
Alexander the problem is that everything around her this year keeps breaking and we can't afford to hire anyone. I think the point is drawing near though that they will have to do it. Okay, going to put ice on now.
Finney, Ice Therapy is best for the first part of healing as others have said.
It reduces the inflammation & numbs the initial pain.
I hope you & Lacey will sleep next to your Mommy also for keeping her warm & calm as she heals her boo boos!
I feel for you & all those that suffer from chronic pain daily!
I have been using ice packs for the last 17 years for my low back & all ova chronic pain, pretty much everyday!
Now, I will call the Dr. on Tuesday morning about that drug scare... Monday is a Holiday.
I thought it was just us in Massachusetts, now, it has moved to newer areas!
Those injections help me a lot without my having to pop so many pain pills. Now, I haff to see what's going to happen next! =O.O= my eyes are wide open!
I hope your doing betta as I type this to you. I wish too that I was younger & stronger as I was before, but I had to face the reality of it all; & it's not a pretty picture is it!
I keep on smiling as much as I can.
I do what I can do & not what I can't do!
Thank you MILO for your love & concern!
I luv ya all so much!
Purrs & prayers,
ღ Kally Kat & Mommy Liz ღ
This stupid house was the reason I hurt my back last year and now I do it again because of something else here. I'm tired, I have no help and I am sick of it all. I promise to keep putting ice on Liz, I promise. I've been so tired all day due to stress, it's knocking me out. Tomorrow is another day. I hope you get some answers on Tuesday, please keep us posted, this is very concerning. All I could think of today is that if I'd hurt myself even more, I would have to just suffer. Not with what's going on now, I can't see myself going for another shot right now.
We're sending big purrs your way! How frustrating! Our meowmie knows that one day she will have to move someplace where there are people to help and she is hoping she will have enough to make it possible. That's something most of us face. Scary, very scary.
I know this is a long shot but some states/towns have councils on elders and might be able to put you in touch with a volunteer to help with some stuff or a discount handyman. Just a thought.
Also meowmie's sister gets pain patches from her doctor - they have medicine that takes away pain - maybe those would help?
Bibi mom checked into those volunteer or even discount handyman things and we couldn't find any here. I don't think we have anything like that. Mom is sore today but not too bad. Hopefully she won't be sore tomorrow, sometimes it's worse on the second day after something like this.
That is VERY frightening Finney! So glad your mom didn't get the shot!
Purring that your mommy's foot and back stop hurting soon! Ice is the best thing to use after an injury but a warm shower sure must have felt good! Take good care of your mommy and hope she's feeling better now. Hey, I know how it is living in a house falling down around you, no money to fix things, being too *old* to do things and no one around to help with big jobs and repairs . . .
Hi Kaci, mom is so frustrated. We have bees coming inside here every day and thank goodness they are too tired to sting anyone. Me and Lacey are on BEE patrol but mom is getting so fed up. They are on the roof so high up, no one can get to them. Mom is definitely not going back up on any ladder and no way can gramps do it so we have to wait for the frost and cold weather to kill them. Sigh, it's always something isn't it sweetie?
Whoa! So sorry your Mama is having to deal with all this on her own. Perhaps she is a baby boomer, too - there are a lot of us out there right now in similar situations, it appears. The Mama's parents passed many years ago, but until a couple of years ago, the Papa's mama was still alive, though in a nursing home because of her multiple physical issues. Though not in our home, her care was still a daily thing, and the stress was exhausting. When you add to this, the house falling around your ears - ours, too! - AND not having extensive funds to deal with it - yikes! The pawrents have decided this is the year, though, to take care of some of it, and have taken money out of savings to hire a handyman. If this isn't possible, then you're gonna have to go "zen" about it. There's the zen koan about the guy being chased by a tiger till he falls over the cliff. He catches himself on a strawberry vine which has managed to root itself in the cliffside, and has one beautiful, luscious fruit. Below him another tiger is waiting, but, living in the moment, he plucks the fruit and eats it, savoring it's sweetness! Well, that's zen for you! Take care of yourself, OK?
Oh, and I forgot to say: Congrats on your DDP, bro! :)
Checkin' up on ya dood, how's da Mom today?? Shur hope her feels better 'n in better spirits. We also know how rough it can be here too. Mommy wifout a job, monies runnin' on empy, bills to be paid 'n jus' us, no dad. Mom's pawrents passed too few years back. X Hubby no where to be found, whish is good. But, we try to look at da brighter side, we got a purrfect PAW (mom's b/f) whofur been close fur several years now. But, he lives 350 miles 'way. Paw sez if'n it comes down to it, we will all move in wif him. But mom don' want to move to far south San Antone. Sigh, yeah it's always somethin'. Haz U thought 'bout contactin' Ur local council or maybe dey haz some kin'a housin' assistance?? Maybe HUD has some home improvement assistance or city or county Human Services Department??? Meowmy has picked pawppy up, but she herself is sick...not good timing fur a recurrence of that EB Monster that lurks withing her...her head feels like a vice and a jack hammer at the same time, and she has been rendered into mush, she can't even let us play in the computer, and no energy to write a diary, sheesh:(
Now she has to go to the doc to get a note to release her from working over the weekend, and they will just love to hear about that:(
Like you say...always something...it should be our motto, MOL!
