A needle in the eye? OH MY!

What a day! First I won't even tell you what mommy did to me and Lacey cause last time we brought it up we got yelled at by all the kitties here. Let's just say it wasn't fun. Then just when we thought it had calmed down, grammy and grampy got home from grampy's eye appointment and asked mom to drive them to an eye specialist. Grampy has mascular degebanation (bad eye stuff) and he has a hemorrhage in one of his eyes. I don't know what that thing is doing there but I guess it's not good.

So mom grabbed her keys and purse and took off thinking it would be just so she could quickly examine it and make some hospital appointment or something for surgery or however they'd do it. WOW! Were they wrong. We kept waiting and waiting for them to come home wondering what was going on.

Grammy weighs next to nothing cause she's had 2 bleeding ulcers in her life and she has a pea sized tummy inside. So she's all bones! She can't sit for that long cause she's got a boney butt and it hurts. Mom keeps telling her she can always have some of her fat, she'd gladly share. MOL. Anyways, my mommy has bad fibromydalgia stuff and her whole body hurts bad when it's rainy out, which it has been like this for DAYS AND DAYS now. So they were both sitting on these small chairs for the longest time. Mom kept getting up and taking walks outside and when she tried to sit back down her legs were hurting so much she was wiggling like she had ants in the pants.

Finally after 2 hours she said "enough" and nicely asked them to explain what was taking so long. Come to find out that anytime a new person comes in, the first exam can take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 hours!!!!! Mom's eyes bugged out of her head and she's like "um, excuse me. I know you fit us in at the last minute but why didn't you warn us?" She was not at all happy about that. She told them she was hurting and grammy was getting tired and nervous and upset.

SO! AFTER mommy went up and said something, they told her it would only be another 20 minutes and "OH BTW, we have a waiting room in here with a nice big TV, some comfy chairs and magazines!" Mom looked at her and said, "and why didn't you tell us that ages ago? you've all been watching us squirm in our chairs, gettnig up and down?" Oh man mommy was ticked off! Mommy used to be a restaurant manager and she cannot stand bad customer service.

So anyways, they went and sat in there and no sooner did they sit down but they were able to go in and see grampy who was about to have a procedure that mommy did not want to see! They had done all kinds of computer eye pictures and it showed every vein, every angle, every spot no his eyeball. Which was fine, mom likes to see that kinda stuff. Mom said she understood what needed to take so long but honestly, they could have told us that over the phone earlier and mom said she would have dropped grampy off and went back to pick him up!!! Jeez!!! They have enough old people going in and out of there you'd think they'd know to do that.

Anyways, In order to stop the bleeding and dry up the yucky blood, they have to give grampy a shot in the eye every month for almost a year!!! BLAAHHHHHHHH!!! Mom isn't too squeamish but said, NO THANKS! I am not watching this. Grampy said it didn't even hurt, they numb it first and it felt like a little pick and that's it. Well, grampy was in WWII and has seen major action at Iwo Jima so his idea of pain and mommy's are two very different things. MOL.

By the time they all got home, they were all ready to drop! So that was our fun day. It was TORTURE for me and Lacey waiting all that time for mommy to come home! What were those doctors thinking keeping my mommy out that long and not telling us where she was? Hhhhmmmmpppppfffff. All I know is, I don't want to think about no needle in my eyeball! I just wanted my mommy home wiff us!

Finn, how horrible you guys were without Mommy for so long! You guys are so used to her being there and then one day at the last min. she's not.

Finn, tell your Grampy thank you for your service. And that he is a very brave soul.

Needles and eyeballs, sounds like a scene out of Saw.

Did your mommy cut your nails?!?

I'm purring for your grandpa Finney! My great-grandma just had a corneal transplant today! We haven't talked to her, so I don't know how it went.

My mom is very squimish about eyes. She can watch those cop and medical shows with no problem until they have to do something with eyes. Then, ewwww!!

OH! And yes, she cut our nails AND she trimmed some loose hairs on both me and Lacey. I have these curly hairs under my chin that get soaked with food every time I eat and they always look oily. So she did that and she trimmed Lacey's thingys on the side of her head that were sticking straight out. She said it looked funny. Nice mommy! Real nice!

Wow, that sounds like a long day and a lot of unnecessary waiting around. That happened to my mom and me when I first got really sick and was diagnosed with diabetes. They (our old vet) left Mom and me in an exam room for the longest time....And we kept hearing all these dogs barking and people talking and typing. It was awful. Sitting in there forever listening to those barking dogs was one reason we changed to a cats-only vet!

Sending lots of purrs to your grampy. He sounds like a tough old guy (hey, he's an olde furt like me!) I've had ear pokes, but EYE pokes - I don't think I could handle that! Ouch!

Hi Gumpy, yeah, gramps can take a lot! We keep saying how he has more than 9 lives himself. He's had some freak accidents and stuff in his life and has always come through pretty good. Plus he was actually in TWO wars! WWII and Korea. He said that God AND the devil didn't want him so he's stuck here, MOL.

He is funny to us Calie and sometimes he is to mom too when he isn't driving her nuts. MOL. She swears it's payback for being such a wild child. He keeps saying to her "don't get old", as if she can stop it somehow!

We'll tell him Calie, he's got the BEST stories from the war, he's been through the craziest stuff. Mom wanted to sit there with a tape recorder one day and listen to him talk but he gets mad. He'll talk about the crazy stuff but he won't talk about anything else. Although he has. He told us he watched as his best buddy got blown to smithereens because the big gun on the battleship backfired and blew him into a million pieces.

Mom understands better now that she's older why grampy was always such a meany and angry. He's mellowed out now but he saw a lot in his life.

oh it is so bad the stuff they went through and then everyone that survivied came back home and society expected them to be a certain way and they couldn't be what "people" thought they should be. Moma had uncles that served in Korea too. My aunts husband (mom's brother in law) was in vietnam. Then our grandpa was in the service 4 yrs (no wartime) and he still seemed mad an angry IDK. He kinda mellowed some now with age. Our dad was in the service (no wartime) and he is very gentle and cares for animals more than people MOL Mom said not really but that is what dad says.

My Grammy gets those shots in her eyes. She was scared for the first one...but now they are not too bad. She thinks that they help her. Tell Grampy "Thank you" for serving our country! Purrs, Skylar and family

I will Skylar, Ingen and everyone. You know what Tigey? My grampy LOVES LOVES LOVES kitties. He would fall head over heels in love with you. If you sent him kitten kisses, he'd be mush! MOL.

Calie we had just about every man in our family in the service. My grampy's brothers were in WWII and Korea also. One of his brothers got shot in the head and had a metal plate in his head his whole life.

My mommy's late brofur in law was in Vietnam in a battlion called the Jungle Eaters. They built the first roads ever in Vietnam! He won a purple heart and we didn't even know it until he died 7 years ago. We had NO idea cause he hated war so much he wouldn't talk about it at all.

Then two of our nephews were in the service. One was in the army but never in a war and the other was an Army Ranger in Iraq and got hit twice by a road side bomb. He's okay, well, physically, mentally, not so much. He's got a lot of headaches now and he's tormented.

Mom works for the Veterans Health Administration and she says that our vets are tough as nails! She admires your Grampy and says "thank you for serving our country." I'm sorry it was such a pawful day for all, Mom hopes this treatment was not done at a VA Hospital or Clinic ~ our vets deserve better than this!

Love, Tully

Oh ouch ouch, needle in the eye. Mom had three eye surgeries when she was 3, 4 and 5 yrs. old. She can't stand having anything put in her eyes. Your grampy is very brave. I think you and Lacey need to snuggle with your Grammy and your Mom to make them feel better. Say, your Mom cut the things sticking out at the side of Lacey's head. Don't tell me she cut her whiskers off. She's gonna need them!

Finney just sent me a pawmail that it was NOT the VA who gave such poor customer service, so we just want to get that on the record! Mom told Finney's Mom that the VA gets a bad wrap, but they really do care about our country's veterans and strive to give them the best health care possible! They deserve it!

Right, it was a private practice place. I do not know why Catster kept giving me an Error #3 in my own darned diary!!! Grrrr.

Nope, not the VA at all! The one we have here is pretty good!

What a day your Mom, grammy had sitting in those awful chairs...it would be hard for Mom to sit that long waiting too...

That was not good customer service at all...hope your Mom told them so...

Well I hope your family gets some rest and can relax this evening.

Wow, that sounds scary!! Needles are one thing, but needles in the EYE, We'll pass! Sorry your family such bad service, they should really know better...

Sounds like you've got many kinds in your family and relatives. Lots of interesting stories by the looks of it.

Hope they made it up to you for being gone so long!

They should have said something to you about the time. I believe that the medical care is getting less and less considered about people who have a difficult time waiting. My nephew who has leukemia and has lost 42 pounds waits hours and hours when he has an appointment. His bottom hurts too because there is little on his bottom for sitting...My hearts aches for those who have to wait and are hurting even more..

Hey Finney! Your poor grampy, but mom says hes right! My mom had 2 shots in her eye before. (mom has bad eyes) It didn't hurt at all, but she said the gross part, was listening to it. Oh boy, that freaked mom out. Mom knows how your grampy feels. He'll be okay. I'll be purring for your grampy!

Okay, I'm up again, Natasha, sorry to hear about your mom's nephew. That's terrible to keep him waiting that long in his condition! Sheesh! They just don't care anymore and it's only getting worse with all the cuts they keep making.

Grampy looks funny this morning, like a pirate. He's got on an eye patch. Maybe he could star next to Johnny Depp! He's already familiar with battleships!
