indoors Arrival Story: Reilly is one of over 30 ginger cats rescued by VOKRA (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association) from a hoarding situation. He was never abused, but he is very wary of human contact. He and his family were rescued from euthanasia and brought to a farm where the foster mum had a couple of buildings set up specially for feral kitties. You can see them here: VOKRA Kitties photo set
On April 25, 2010, I brought Reilly and Finlay home with me. He and his brother are settling in quite well, and getting used to a real home slowly but surely. Bio: Reilly and Finlay were never abused, but they were also never really cared for in their old home. There was very limited human contact, and no litter boxes. When all the cats were removed from the home, they were going to be euthanised, but VOKRA intervened.
Both Reilly and his brother are litter box champs. They're still very wary, but are getting used to me bit by bit. While they still run under the bed or bureau from me, they have started to come out to the kitchen at feeding time.
Update: Reilly rarely stops moving! He's hyper, friendly, and VERY mischievous. Heidi barely tolerates him, but Abbie seems to like him, which is a good thing, because he loooooves Abbie. Harmony is a 13 and a half year old black Lab. For ten years she happily worked as a guide dog for Mum's good friend, who is both deaf and blind. Almost two years ago, she retired and moved to a new, loving home, where she could be spoiled rotten. She was still able to "work", since her new mum worked at a nursing home. Harmony came in to visit the seniors, some of whom had not spoken for some time due to senility or Alzheimer's. They spoke to Harmony, though, probably because she was such a great listener, sitting calmly, while looking at them with her beautiful brown eyes.
Yesterday Mum received an e-mail saying that Harmony wasn't doing very well. She's having trouble standing up, and is getting more and more confused. It looks like she will be going to the Rainbow Bridge very soon, and Mum is very sad, as is her friend.
Please pray or purr for Harmony. She's a beautiful old soul.
But I have to. I've only been on Catster for a very short time, so not many kitties have got to know me - really, my mum hardly knows me yet, since I've only recently been coming out to see her - but Catster is no longer the place Mum loved. Every time she comes here now, she feels sad. There are so many kitties and people who are upset, and the whole layout of the "new and improved" Catster is cold and unwelcoming.
Our Plus membership expired just before the changes took place. Mum was thinking about renewing it in the summer, but now she's not going to. The past three years' Plus memberships were gifts from some very generous people. I'm not sure if they want it known, so I won't say their names, but I hope they know Mum was very thankful for the gifts.
Mum said she doesn't want to delete our profiles, but we won't be coming to Catster anymore.
Abbie is chewing on the computer cord, so I'd better go now.
I love their chickeny smell! I love how they crunch when I bite down on them! I love how chickeny they taste! I love how Mum thinks they smell like 20-year-old Play Doh (that means she won't eat any of them)!!
I love my Greenies so much, I was prancing around with my huge tail in the air. I was headbutting Finlay, and licking his face, too! Finlay growls when he eats his Greenies.
