Arrival Story:
I used to feed a colony of feral cats, she was one of them. I was feeding this colony for a few months, and one day I went to feed them, and these 2 dogs were usuing her as a tug of rope toy. It was not a game, they were trying to kill her. One had her back leg, one had her neck, she was very, very pregnant. I had mace on my key chain so I ran up to these 2 dogs and maced them. I want to say I would never ever have done that if I didn;t think that was the only way to save her. I love animals, but these 2 dogs were wild and MEAN, so I had to do it. After the dogs dropped her I snatched her off the ground, and took her home. She had some cuts on her, nothing to major so I took her to the vet and had her checked out, and took her home. Waller had NEVER been touched by a person and never been in a house. I worked with her everyday, trying to gain her trust, and let her know I wasn't going to hurt her. She is a very tiny cat, and being pregnant, she looked like she had swallowed a Nerf Football!!! She had her kittens, 7 of them!!! She was a great mommy, and the kittens were all healthy. She seemed to be better towards me while she was with the kittens, she didn't run and hide from me when I came in the room, she came to me and wanted to be loved on, she was acting like a real cat! When the kittens were old enough I found homes for them, and got Waller spayed. While she was healing up she stayed in the house. She didn't seem to like it!!! She tore the blinds off the windows, shredded the bed, went to the bathroom everywhere, and went back to being a super feral kitty. When her stitches came out I put her outside because I thought that was what she wanted. She hung around for 2 days and then disappeared. I looked for her everyday and every night. I could not find her. About a month later, I was coming home from work, it was dark and as I turned onto my street, I say a flash of an animals eyes as my headlights hit them, I stopped the car and went to see what it was. It was a little black cat laying on the side of the road. I picked her up and brought her home. She was skin and bones, and something was wrong with her back legs. I fed her, loved her and wrapped her in a warm blanket until I could take her to the vet. The vet said she was ok, but needed rest and food. She became an inside kitty then. Waller was not seen for the next 6 months!!! She was just a little flash of black streaking through the house. We had to look for her every few days to make sure she was still in the house!!! I have no idea how old she was when I found her, so I am not sure of her age now. It has taken a very long time, but she finally came out so we could see her. She still does not act like a cat, but she does try! She will sit beside you and headbutt your leg, she wallers on you, but doesn't lay in your lap. I think she is beauitful, and as weird as she is, she is a very important part of our family, and we love her.

Waller was named after a blues singer. We found this old record at an antique auction she looked like the singer!!! She was fat and she did waller!!!!! Her first name was mama kitty, but after the kittens were gone and she became an inside cat she put on some weight, and started trying to be a sweet kitty, Fats Waller became her name!! She has tiny feet, and skinny legs and she will beat you to death with her tail! She does not like to make eye contact, and always looks at you so sad and forlorn. She is not sad, she is a loved and pampered girl!!! She is still learning to be a cat, and we adore her! Waller died Saturday 2/11/06 at 11 am. We are waiting on the tests to come back to find out why. We are so sad and miss her very much. She is burried beside Buster and Pumpkin under the Japanese Maple in the front yard.
