Arrival Story:
I don't know who my parents are or where I was born. But due to my superior intelligence, I was sent right to college shortly after birth. I spent the first 9 months of life as a research animal (formerly known as Rosie) at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. I was helping scientists learn how to better treat cat viral infections. Not sure who signed me up for that gig (the pay was terrible), but otherwise I was very well treated in my first home. I received top notch medical care, free food and lodging, and all my shots. I also got to live with some great gals my own age, though the quarters were cramped and the style of the place was a little too industrial for me (concrete gets old real quickly people). Anyway, living these first months of mine in what I later learned was a place called "the basement," I never got to see the outdoors or spend much time with humans. Oh don't cry over it people. I didn't even know what I was missing back then. (Good thing too, because I would have led a daring an escape). Life was going along as usual. The Labcoats came in every now and then to take my vitals and the rest of the time the gals and I played hide and seek (which is actually quite challenging when you all live in one room). Then, in August of 2006 the woman I now live with (I call her the Pale One) came and took me home with her. She kept telling me I was the prettiest one there (duh). But other than always stating the obvious, she's not so bad. If she remembers to feed me on time and cleans the bathroom, we're good. I can't understand half of what she says but she seems to like me and she helps me get some great views of outside. So I put up with her flaws, she puts up with my claws, and we live this crazy life together.

Michigan State's in the Final Four

Well, somehow the MSU men's basketball team has made it to the Final Four. You'd think I might have a grudge against the place since I spent my youth in a basement lab there, but actually I'm happy for them. I feel bad they just chase balls around all day like a pack of dogs... but whatever, if it makes them happy.

I might just be in a good mood because of the weather. It was sunny and in the 50's today - great for laying out in the screened in porch and watching all the wildlife. I had some run-ins with these mice out there in the fall. Who do they think they are to just try to move into the basement? I don't think so. I keep checking to see if they are still trying to sneak in. No sign so far. Maybe they found a relative to take them in.

Other then that, not much to update you on for the last month. My owner has been keeping some crazy hours. But, since I nap on and off all day, it hasn't really affected me. The food is still in the bowl, and really, isn't that all any cat cares about?

My summer plans include eating more tuna and taking some trips back to Michigan to see family. I love the pet carrier (yes, really...I do) but those car rides are just sooo long... even with the naps. But at least all the toll workers give me nice compliments, and who doesn't like a self-esteem boost?

The Cats are Alright

So scary to hear about the earthquake in Chile and the tsunami today. My thoughts are with all the people and animals who went through this. St. Francis, pray for them all! I feel glad I don't live in an earthquake zone but I wonder if the animals that do live there have any sense that these things are about to happen; so they can protect themselves and warn the people. Maybe humans will someday figure out that we cats and (I hate to admit this) dogs have even more talents and gifts to offer people. Hope all those Chilean pets can comfort their owners tonight.

Today is going to be great. I have already spent 2 hours looking out on a beautiful sunny day in the neighborhood. The Pale One has these big sun catcher things hanging in the window and they make excellent cover for spying on birds. OK, I've got to get back to sunbathing. You can never start working on that Spring Break tan too early!
