There Were Almost 4

Last weekend, Mommy and Daddy went to the Irvine Animal Care Center (Shelter) after Mommy just happened to see that they just got 2 - 2 month old kitties up for adoption. It was a little brother and sister. A black boy like me and a little tabby that looked like a Rocky Ann Jr. Mommy told Daddy they should just go and look because she wanted to see the shelter as they had never been there but...she was bringing a carrier...just in case. They got there and finally found the 2 they were interested in. They were already in a Get Acquainted Room with another lady! Our pawrents could see them thru the window and they were both adorable and if they lady wasn't going to adopt them, we were! They waited and waited while the lady was trying to make up her mind. One of the workers said my pawrents got there just 15 minutes too late. Also the lady had been coming for 3 weeks and had been interested in an older cat but just happened to see these this morning. They were thinking we still had a chance to adopt them. Then the answer finally came...the lady was adopting only one of the cats - the Tabby but not the black boy. Some other rescues near us will give people who will adopt both kitties the first choice, that is what happened with me and Zoey. One lady only wanted Zoey but my pawrents wanted both of us so they got us. One rescue adopts kitties out in pairs. But here it was first come, first serve. Mom would have been happy if the lady would have taken both of us. But she felt bad for the little boy being without his sister now. My pawrents really wanted a pair just like us, not just one. There were only 2 other kittens at the shelter and Mommy wanted one to be black. So they left with no kitties.

The good things:

Mommy was very impressed with the Animal Care Center. The kitties were in 2 story cages but had regular playtime in playrooms that had really cool cat trees and were decorated really cute. They had comfy beds and lots of toys. The place was very clean and smelled clean. Even the director of the shelter had this huge cat tree that is made to look like a real tree (very expensive!) in her office and cats got to take turns in there. All the workers were so nice and they had a cute little store there too. They also adopted out doggies and bunnies. Mommy left a donation and will continue to do that since she was very happy with the shelter.

Mommy & Daddy got home and after watching us, realized Zoey and I are just too happy the way the family is right now and they don't want to disrupt that. Zoey and I have a very strong bond. So two it will remain.

Mommy later looked their website up and the little black boy had been adopted! So that made Mommy very happy.

Happy to be Zoey's only favorite Brother and Hazel Basil's only favorite Valentine!

Me too Jezebel! The Center seems to adopt out alot of their animals every week but of course a group live there a long time. Nice to know it is a decent place for them.

Tao pretty soon you will be sharing everything with your new kitty sibling. Even the towels! But hopefully you will have lots of fun times like me and Zoey have together.

but there's a difference between U's-Zoey and meez-my noo bro. that is U's guys haz been together efur since U's were born. so U's r all socialized with cats. but meez befur been close with any kittyfur in real life. so meez hates that kind!! it wont beez easy to get oosed to him. and yeah, I'd have to share my efurrything with him!! it's disgusting!!

You are right, Tao, it will be hard for you to have this stranger all of a sudden invade your space. I feel for you, Dude! Make sure the new kitty knows that you are the head Alpha Cat in your house! You should be given everything first - food, treats, warm towels, etc then it is given to the 2nd kitty so the new kitty knows his place. You both will feel better with that arrangement. Hopefully he will be a half way decent little brother even though he will be annoying.

Enjoy the time you have before he arrives!

That was a good story, Zack, with a happy ending! And Tao - it may not be so bad. Sleeper and I were both pretty perturbed when the Little Irritant was allowed in, but now we actually seem to enjoy playing with her. Yes, she's still irritating at times, but Fearless turned out OK.

It's not easy at first - we did a lot of hissing and running. Part of the reason Fearless got her name is because she doesn't back down from ANYTHING! She was always the aggressor, which was a good thing since I weighed at least 5 pounds more and Sleeper was more like 8 pounds more, and if we'd wanted to hurt her, we could. Just tell Sissy to keep a close watch and make sure no one is actually doing more than having hissy fits and the occasional wrestling match. It's only in our natures, after all, to try to establish who is alpha cat.

I got so excited reading your diary, thinking you were getting another sibling(s). They are so much fun! But I can see how your mom wouldn't want to upset the dynamics.

Fearless, Da Tabbies want our human brother and his boyfriend, Eric and Paul, to buy us a koi pond for our backyard so we can watch fish instead of birds. So far it has not been delivered. MOL! Eric and Paul use to have a koi pond in their own backyard not too long ago. Da Tabbies have their own list for Eric and Paul too. MOL!!

We have a tiny backyard that right now is all paved. But Da Tabbies are still wishing for a koi pond fur us.

OUT A SIGHT!!!! I WANT me one of those, too!!! The pawrents used to have aquariums long before us, but the closest they ever got to a koi pond was an old cast iron bathtub sunk in the ground that had goldfish in it! But that sucker got REALLY big, let me tell you, when you feed it crickets! (oh, sorry Bob...)

Catster probably won't let this post, but here's a pic of Maya hunting for frogs in a later lily pond the pawrents made. That's a metal turtle sitting on the rock.

Catster did let it post and I was even able to click the picture link from my email!

That is a cool lily pond. I bet that was a blast for Maya.

Tao, if it gives you any hope for a possible happy outcome, just this morning the Papa watched Sleeper and Fearless playing together and said: "So, I guess they're pals now? What's it been - 2 months?" The Mama said: "More like three!" And, yes, they'd even slept together for a while yesterday.
