Arrival Story:
I first noticed BigBoy walking in the neighbourhood in the summer of 2005, he was a rough looking ugly hobo cat. He didn't like any other cat or person and generally kept to himself. When I asked a neighbour about him he said he has seen him for at least 3 years. Then in 2007 he started getting interested in our deck, he noticed so many cats visiting that he too came by. We often saw him napping behind the bbq or under the bench but he didn't trust us and if we opened the patio door he would leave. After a few weeks he noticed we were gentle with the neighbours' cats who visited and would hide and watch us if we opened the door very slowly. Sometimes he waiting for a bowl of food to appear and sneak to eat if we weren't watching him too closely. More weeks went by and I started winning him over with some catnip toys, he was very nervous around us and rarely stayed if we were out but I could open the patio door and stay inside and talk to him without him running away. As the months went by he started trusting us a little bit more but we had to move around very slowly. Finally in 2008 he let me touch him, the petting had to be slow and I only on his head at first. Gradually I could pet him on his back, only front to back and scratching was not acceptable. During the winter of 2008/2009 when he came to eat I would drag him into the house. This consisted of me tricking him to come close to the door where I would grab him under the armpits and drag him in while the hubby closed the door. He never left the step at the patio door that first winter, and he never stayed more than an hour, but it was the first step in letting him know we cared. During the winter of 2009/2010 when he came to eat I would drag him into the house but I could then close the patio door myself. He started enjoying more pets and then rubs and chin scratches. His time inside slowly got longer as well, from wanting go back out after he finished eating to an hour, to 2 hours to 3 hours as long as we moved slowly around him. He never wandered and always stayed close to the patio door so we gave him a blanket which he enjoyed resting on. During the fall/winter of 2010 BigBoy decided he wanted to hang out with us more often, sometimes we would open the patio door and would slowly & curiously walk inside. He enjoys getting pets, his blanket and the numerous catnip toys inside. Then in January 2011 I took him to the vet to get him fixed (i've tried for years), he surprisingly did very well. He started enjoying staying indoors for longer hours and even discovered the bed behind the couch and thinks its heaven. In February 2011 BB started running away from the door when we opened it to let the cats out for their outdoor playtime. It was funny to watch him hide behind the dining room table, and sometimes he would run down the hall and into the bedroom. We never forced him to go outside, and if he asked to go out all he ever did was sit on the mat and stare inside. We were just so happy when on his own he used the litter box! I have been trying to introduce him to it for weeks but he was afraid of the box. In April 2011 he discovered the comforts of the couch. If your quiet and calm he may just jump up and take a nap. Early some mornings he may even jump up on the bed and wait for us to wake up, usually we wake up because he grooms so loud. He is still skittish and runs from us sometimes for no reason, but he has come a long way... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~

Bio:
If anyone ever has doubts about adopting an older cat they shouldn't. After all those years living on the streets BigBoy is a very loving cat. He knows his name and when you talk to him he grumbles at you in a cute way, he follows you around the house and he sleep with you in bed. He starts to purr the minutes you pet his head and he loves to cuddle on the couch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ March 2012 ~ In sad news BB was diagnosed with Cancer. What we hoped was just a tough case of conjunctivitis turned out to be much worst. A chemo pill has helped reduce the lump above his eye, and we are loving him and caring for him as long as he is happy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ April 12th, 2012 ~ Our sweet boy passed away in the loving arm of his parents with the help of his vet. He gained his wings and is now pain free. He will be missed.

My life::
It took many years for me to trust people, and I do like the ones I have now and call my pawrents. I can still be skittish and I startle easily but I have come a long way around them. Being an outdoor cat has given me many URIs so I often have a goopy eye but I am good with the warm towels that clean my face. I also get ear infections from years of having ear mites but mommy takes care of cleaning them. And after a few months living inside my fur is nicer and my whiskers are growing longer.

About me::
I am all black with a small patch of white at my neck. I am a normal sized cat and I look like I swallowed a football. I snore and I have a squeaky meow. I enjoy being pet but sometimes I do freak out. I'm learning to cuddle and I think I may be a daddy's boy.

A funny thing I do::
Sometimes, if you pet me the right way at the base of my back by my tail in little strokes I will lick the air or anything nearby.
