Arrival Story:
It was mid to late August 2009. Mom's Dachshund, Joey, was quickly going downhill. He had not been well for months and the end was getting close. Maybe I sensed that because one day I showed up on her doorstep, hurt, hungry, and looking for a friendly new HOME - or maybe just a place to get a regular meal. I don't remember if Mom or Dad saw me first, but when Mom did, she thought I was Sparky, a cat that lived behind them. I was hurt, and very apprehensive, so Mom gave me some food!!! I was SO hungry, I gobbled it down, knocking kibbles all over the cement - and then I ate those too. She gave me more and I ate that too - and more and more and more! I was SO hungry! Dad said "DON'T FEED HIM OR HE'LL STAY!" "But he's HURT!" Mom argued. So Mom got in the car and drove to the next block to try to find Sparky's owner - the first door she knocked on was the right one. "Sparky is at our house without his collar and he's hurt and thin" Mom told the lady of the house. She jumped in the car with Mom, confused, but came to check anyway. As soon as she saw me she exclaimed, "That's not Sparky!" So Mom took her back home and came back to check on me. Dad kept saying "he cannot stay - you need to advertise for a found cat" and Mom said "you aren't working, why don't you do it?" And so he did. He put my photo on Craig's List and put a flyer on the corner 4-way stop. Mom took the flyer to TLAC so they put me on their FOUND cats website. A few people called. Their poor kitties were probably eaten by coyotes though. Somehow I managed to survive. I stayed. I attacked Joey once - even though he didn't even see me. I attacked Mom too - what was she thinking putting Joey in front of me like that?!

my friend Spice kitty just got killed

I usually hang out in the backyard where I can catch bugs and stuff. Our neighborhood is pretty safe and there is hardly any traffic. Yesterday my Dad heard a noise then lots of knocking on the front door. He ran out and ...two stray dogs had mauled poor little Spice kitty right next door. The neighbor chased after the dogs and made them drop her. She never moved after that.

My dad took her to the emergency clinic just 5 minutes away, but she died within 20 minutes. He is real sad :-( I am sad too. I knew Spice kitty almost my whole life and my Dad knew her for 16 years. I used to go next door and hang out with Spice. We used to just sit out on the driveway and watch everything. She was 16 years old and a real pretty girl. This isn't supposed to happen.

The neighbors already took her food bowl and outside bed away. I miss my friend. She was a nice kitty to everyone. My dad used to feed her some crunchies in her own bowl for lunch. She would come over to our yard to say hi and eat them. Now I'll never see her again and it's not right.

My mom caught the 2 dogs that attacked my friend. She took the dogs to the shelter and filed a report. But the owner already paid the shelter fee and picked up the dogs. It's really his fault. I hope the owner feels bad, and the dogs too. That was real mean.

My dad is real sad. I am too. So is my Mom and the neighbors and everyone :-( I hope Spice kitty is in the Rainbow Bridge.

...Scoobs :-(

hanging out with Leo

Today Leo my brother snuck outside. We were chilling in the front yard next door. Then Mom saw Leo and came and got him.

But we were so cool for awhile. I love my brother Leo. We almost look like twins.

After Mom took Leo inside I went in the backyard and took a long nap. It is very tiring to stay awake all the time...I mean for at least 6 hours a day. That's hard work.

Wow, today is my "birth" day - Mom and Dad don't really know when I was born, but I showed up on their doorstep one day in August 2009. Mom's dog, Joey, was in failing health and I knew that soon she would need someone else to love. Of course she fed me (even though Dad said no!) - I was SO skinny back then. After a few days when I still didn't leave, she took me to her vet to get checked out and shots (I had no microchip yet, but I was neutered already). The vet said I was about a year old. They tried to find my owners, but no one came.

Here it is 2011, so that would make me about 3 now - time sure does fly... Earlier this year I got really, really sick. They took me to the emergency vet and then my regular vet, but they never figured out what was wrong with me. I'm healthier again, but I never gained back all the weight I gained in my first 2 years. I guess that's good since it's not healthy for me to be TOO fat... Lucy and I like each other now - we go for walks together - sometimes twice a day - to the end of the block and back. I like my alone time with Mom and Lucy and it lets me explore further away. Mom wants me to stay inside all the time, but one of the other cats, China, hates me and she won't leave me alone. The other cat, Leo is ok - we play fight - they call us "book ends" because we look so much alike and often lie in opposite poses - at least that's what they say.

I'm glad I picked this house. I hope I live a long, long time in my forever home. Happy birthday to me!
