Seal Point

Sleeping; Being petted; Sleeping; Eating; Washing the puppy's face; Sleeping; Hovering around when the dog gets fed in case any scraps get forgotten; Sleeping

Just the thought of going out the front door is scary; Being given pills (a 2-man job involving a towel & a major, sometimes bloody struggle); When the puppy wakes her up; When Gomer steals her nap spot; When the puppy knocks her off the couch

Favorite Toy:
furry toy mice, scraps of paper (you think it's trash, but Topaz begs to differ)

Favorite Nap Spot:
On the back of the sofa (in the sunny spot); On the foot of mom's bed; In the puppy's bed; In front of the heater in the winter; Right in front of the A/C in summer

Favorite Food:
YES!!! Topaz will eat ANYTHING. All food is good food. But if the puppy is eating it, it must be better than her food, so she really wants it.

Purring like a motorboat; Sleeping on her mom's head at night; Washing all family members' faces while they're asleep; Evading capture when pills, nail clippers, or potential baths are involved

Arrival Story:
I adopted Topaz from a local cat rescue ... and then didn't see her again for an entire year. She didn't escape, she was just so frightened that she wouldn't come out from under the bed if anyone was in the room. So, for a year I just monitered the levels in her food and water dishes, cleaned her potty box, and I would lie on my stomach looking under the bed at her, talking softly. After that first year, she would come and ask to be petted only if I was lying down. Eventually that graduated to not running away if I walked into the room. We've been together for 12 years now, and she's an absolute bundle of love and purrs. Still skittish around men, but Topaz has come a long way.

Topaz is shy but full of love, and just wants to be everybody's mother. When I came home with a Rat Terrier puppy, I wasn't sure she'd accept his presence in her world. But Topaz adopted Sterling (the puppy) and has spent hours curled up with him, sleeping in the sun. She washes his face at least twice a day, puts up with his much wetter kisses, and disciplines him when he plays too rough. The dog even licks his paw and washes his own face, just like a cat -- which he learned from wathcing Topaz do it. At 14, Topaz finally has the baby she always wanted. :)
