Arrival Story:
Jasmine, our kitty of 17 years passed away nine months after a cross country move in 2003. We visited the SPCA cat room to look for a new cat (not a replacement, mind you) as we had never been cat-less and knew there were plenty of kitties that needed homes. At the SPCA, I sat in a chair in the sun by a window in the cat room and "Oreo" as Sweetie was called, climbed into my lap and settled down. Apparently I was in her seat and seemed ok enough to sit upon. So she chose me, quite clearly. She was somewhere between three and five years old, spayed, and chipped, but her chip hadn't been registered. The pound people were shocked that we would adopt an "old cat." 17 was old three to five years was not - at least to us. They phoned several times after we brought her home to be sure we were still ok with that old cat!! Sweetie was quiet at the pound but we discovered she liked to talk when we got her home. She enjoys having a conversation with people and doesn't wander around meowing aimlessly. She's a tuxedo cat and apparently they have lots of personality! Unfortunately Sweetie does not like to be picked up or have kitty hugs like Jasmine did, but she is a fine lap and bed cat with plenty of personality. My husband calls her MissNomer because she is Sweet but doesn't like hugs! Sweetie has been with us a little over six years now and enjoys sunny spots to sleep and her little burlap bag of nip!! She also enjoys softening (kneading) certain afghans and drools when she's really happy. I had to call the pound about the drooling as I had never seen a cat drool before... She is afraid of plastic bags so we are pretty certain something happened to her with a bag at some point in time. We wish we could know her history but that's something she can't tell us. I work from home and she helps in my office, reminding me when it's time to take a break and sits on papers on the floor for me. She's my buddy when everyone else is at work or school.

Well, I admit I am a mooch. I like to mooch ham and cheese from my people. Just yesterday I mooched lasagna and it was good!! I think I like the turkey meat and cheese that are in it. Mind you I'm not at all a chubby cat and my people feed me good food but they seem to have a greater variety for themselves!!

How to wake up your people

My people was being lazy today, so I woked up the lady by putting my nose on her cheek, then softened her pillow and sat on her shoulder. I think she liked it....If I circle from sitting on her and walk around her head on her pillow, that usually works pretty good but today I had to give her multiple kisses before she really woke up!!
