I need your opinion on cat toys

Hey, mom wants to get me some new toys, but she is not sure if I will like any. She wants to try out some that are not wand toys. I have a ton of wand toys, and they are great, but I need variety.

Does anyone have this? peek a prize cat toy box
and if so, do you like it? Mom is very iffy on it. It's a lot to pay for something I might ignore.
Here is another version of it, except smaller:
peek and play

This one my mom just ordered: bergan starchaser
I hope it's good!

Here is one of those dvds for cats. Sorry Tabbies, it's all BIRDS: Mewvie Birdland Bonanza
and another one that looks much better: Cat Sitter dvd

I only watch tv very rarely. But I definitely react to nature sounds on tv.

So.... What do you guys think?

We have one of those "ball in a round track" things, the kits liked it,but not so much with us adults...we like those "Yeowww!!!" catnip toys....Sobe likes balls that he can play "Sobeball" with....

Actually, our overall favorite toy would probably be an empty cardboard box...it can be a fort,a ship,a bed,a scratching post...anything!

We don't have any of those toys you are thinking about, but that peek a prize looks interesting. I think there is also some kind of small ball that you can put treats in and then you have to figure out how to get the treats out. That might be a cool one to try! We like empty boxes like Tigger mentioned! MOL!

We have the peek a prize toy box and the bergan starchaser. I think your mom made a good choice with the starchaser.

You can get some ping pong balls, poke a small hole in them, fill with catnip and tie or sew some fabric around them.

Hi Toki, The first one, the toy box~ was a real dust gatherer in my house. To the point that mom gave it away.
The star chaser has been a hit with all of us.
We play with it lots and often.
But our all time favorite is a wand toy- it's DA BIRD!
Mom has to buy refills often cause we do kill that bird. (Sorry Da Tabbies!)

We do watch the cat sitter DVD and guess what Mom is going to order Mewvie Birdland Bonanza for my birthday! YAY!

Love,
Ollie

Hmmm we nevfur had any of those...we like boxes, real fur mice/other small real fur toys, ...we pounce on them carry them all over, rip them up and mew with them...we love crinkly balls, and scrunched up bits of paper, Minko goes bonkers fur old coupons or store receipts that are wadded up.
We love the laser toy and beg for it a lot, wand toys, too...we like low tech, we guess...

Enjoy your new toys when they come!

We had something similar to the star chaser and we all played with it when we were kittens, but now nobody plays with it. The peek a prize looks fun, but if you play with it without supervision, you know the balls will travel to the portal, never to be seen again! MOL! We have two of those DVDS, actually one is still on VHS. We do like to watch them from time to time. Warning....you will try to touch the screen or go behind the tv to see where the creatures go!

Mom is kind of ashamed to admit all the toys I have and am bored of. Including the ones you mentioned. I do still like the rattling fur mice, but I want something DIFFERENT. It is definitely time to get new mylar crinkle balls. I can't even remember the last time I saw one! The portal to Bubastis must be getting more powerful. Mom is like a compulsive cat-toy buyer. Especially if she is very tired or discouraged. This usually happens very late and she ends up in the pet aisle at the grocery store and comes home with bad toys. She says she needs to join a Compulsive Cat-toy Buyers Anonymous Group. I told her she doesn't have a problem, that she should embrace this charming habit. Anyway, that's why she wants to try a bigger toy. Mom's old cat before me never touched the circle track type toys, which is why she never bought me one. But she keeps seeing other cats playing with them and decided to try. Then again, whenever she sees Charlie Chocolate Paws' cute pics playing with his Cat Dancer, she takes mine out and tries to get me to play with it. But no. I will actually walk away and give her a look like I am embarrassed FOR her.

Im a spoiled cuppycake boy with tons of toys and I too get bored with what I have. My momcat usually bundles up all my toys that I dont use and that are in good condition and donate them to the kitty shelter along with homemade catnip toys. I had the track ball thingy and liked it for like a day but then got bored. The other toy might be fun for awhile but Im sure I would get sick of that too. Momcat just bought another keurig machine and it came in a huge box so she let me play and chew in that for awhile, that was fun. I guess my favorite toy right now is the catnip bubbles. Momcat has to blow the bubbles that are catnip scented and I like to chase them all over the room:) Congrats on being ddp of the day my friend:) Love, Tate

Toki,
You are so adorable in your cap :)
I like the starchaser toy. I like it most when mom plays with it too. I only play by myself once in a while but I am an Olde Furt now. I would like the peek a prize too. I like to fish at stuff with my paws. Mom would probably put paper balls and treats in there for me to get.
Let us know which ones you like. Have fun!
Your pal,
Macy

You know, Toki, your Mom could get you any and or all of thise toys...and if you end up not enjoying any of them they could be donated to the shelter, or some rescue group. Meowmy did that once with some things that we just were not interested in....better to donate than collect dust balls, on the other hand we can play with dust balls, too, MOL!!

And CVongrats on being a DDP, today, Toki!
Yea!

Diary gal loves toys, too!

Purrs, and have a fun toy filled day1

I have to admit that we've never had most of the storebought toys bigger than the catnip mousies that are mentioned above. Mostly the Mama has made stuff for us - cardboard forts or the heavy shoelaces tied together into one long string - we all love those and still play with them; more so if the pawrents gets involved. Fearless likes to drag the shoelaces and wind them around the Mama's chair while she's eating breakfast! However - we like the look of the Peak a Prize - Fearless, especially loves to put mousies into places that she must work to retrieve them from. The DVDs look like more of a human thing - something THEY like to watch us react to! MOL

She forgot to say Happy DDP today, Toki! I think I'd probably like that Starchaser, too, 'cause it's sort of the same thing of me trying to get something out of a hole. But how easy are the balls to remove, I wonder? I'm AWFULLY good at retrieving - MOL! Let us know when you get it, OK?

Hi Toki!
We rotate our toys because we do get bored with them. We love FlyToys which are like a fishing pole with a fly on the end, but we tend to destroy them rather easily. Anything with feathers is destroyed pretty quickly, too. We also love anything with catnip in it. The starchaser toy looks pretty fun, I think we'd like that one. Let us know what you get and whether it gets "paws up" or not. Concats on being a DDP today!

We have a toy that is similar to the peek and play only it's round and fur covered. When we first gots it we played and played and played. Not so much anymore unless Grammy puts nip all over it. We got ours at Pet Edge online. It was cheaper. We highly recommend the starchaser or toys similar to it. We have several. We like to do the scratching on the star chaser. There is one with a motorized mouse we used to have only Cleo broke it playing too hard. We has a new one that the ball makes chirpy, birdy noises when you hit it. We looove that one. Got it at Walmart for less than 15.00. I think Paris and Presly got it for Xmas and thats how we discovered it. We also highly recommend the Catsitter DVD's we has all 3!!! We are spoiled MOL! Right now we are watching the Fishy one. We take spells on them. There is one that is mostly birds and one that is mostly rodents with a few burds sprinkled in. Can't go wrong on them. Haven't tried the Mewvie Birdy one, but Meowmy may get us that one since we're spoiled. MOL MOL MOL!!!! We will wtach these all the time. Meowmy puts our 'show' on every day when she gets up and it is on all day til bed time. Toes has a fit when it is time for the fishies or birdies to go to sleep. It is funny. Meowmy will yell "it's time for the birdies to go night night. Tell them night." Toes will come running into the living room and go right up to the TV to tell it night. MOL MOL Then she gives Meowmy such a sad face. MOLMOL MOL. Hopes you get losts of new fun toys Toki!

Loves,

Zeeke & the crew

I myself love sparkle balls...the small ones that you can get at a craft store. They have biggers ones...but it is too big for me to carry around in my mouth. Poppy and I love the laser light...that is one of our favorite toy to play with. We get lots of exercise chasing that red dot. We also have a tunnel...that we got for Christmas....Poppy loves to lay in it. Hope this helps.
Congrats on being a DDP.

Concats on your DDP!!

We don't like anything that Mom and Dad are not a part of.
Any toy must be moved, thrown, wiggled, swished..etc by a human for it to be interesting and fun.

We do like bags and boxes too.

Mom can buy us this real expensive toy and we generally find more fun with the box it came in.

We have one of the bergan turbo scratchers which is like the starchaser. My sisfur and I like it, though we don't play with it all the time. We will play with it if Mom gets it going. I think you'll enjoy it. We also like Da Bird and the various nip toys we have. I've never had so many toys in my life, since coming to Catster. :)

Yay for being a DDP! Love that photo of you and your newsboy cap!

oh yeah, and tully, my fishing fly toys are definitely my favorite too, and the only ones that I NEVER get sick of. But I totally destroy mine too. I do this Iron Jaw thing where I will chomp down and not let go. Mom doesn't like it because she feels like I am ingesting the deer hairs and stuff, which have coloring on them. She has to hide the fishing flies in my zippered toy case. She tried to get a couple of the natural deerhair fishing flies that look like mice, but I don't like them as much as the colorful fish ones with the dangly legs. I am like a psycho about those.

We had the peek a prize given to us. I am the only one that plays with it, but Mom will sprinkle a few kibbles or treats in there, and it keeps me busy for a while, and she is amazed at how I can get the food out. I like that better than a ball in it. We all love Da Bird too, but I would like to suggest a Kong Kicker. It is a long rectangle with a tail, & has some stuffing & catnip in it. We like it cause you can really grab that thing & bunny kick it really good, and it gets pretty beat up between the 3 of us & still holding up. Mom is thinking of getting us a dvd too, cause I like to watch the hockey games with The Dad.

That Kong Kicker sounds cool! I'll look it up online and leave the page up for mom to catch me looking at it longingly. It's funny about Da Bird, the first 2 days i had it, I was crazy about it. I would beg mom to play and meow if she put it away. But I have completely lost interest. Mom took out my Cat-a-Pole again last night, and I was playing and having fun. I needed a break from that one because I was bored of it too. The Peek a Prize is tempting, but mom is still unsure. I need a new treat ball, I lost mine. This week mom is going to put together a bag of my old toys and donate them.

We are a little late to this.

We love the Bergan Starchaser. The peek box we got bored with but a good thing to bring out every once in awhile then cats think it is new again.

We love the Hagen Catit Design Senses Play Circuit track we bought on Amazon. Not expensive, well made, changeable, and we play with it everyday.

Zack, my mom has to admit failure with the Bergan Starchaser for me. I have ZERO interest in it. We have put together a bunch of cat toys we are going to donate, and that is one of them. Oh well. I think I just want new fishing flies.

Toki, tell your Mom to slide half of the Starchaser under the edge of a low piece of furniture. Mom has ours half under the Armoire in the bedroom. It presents a challenge plus when the ball goes under the Armoire I go "Whhheeere did it go"

March 31st 2012 at 9:07 pm

That is a great tip by Zach! We have the edge of our Stargazer so it goes a little bit under a cabinet and we think that is a lot of fun. Don't give up on it yet, you might just not have found the right place for it. Have your Mom move it around to different places of the house till she finds the right spot for it. Sometimes Mom can have a toy in one room and we totally ignore it and then she moves it to another room and we love it. Silly kitties!

Zack
