Arrival Story:
Captain was found at the dump by my boyfriend. It was July fourth and we were going rafting on the river, but had to take some trash to the dump. While I was getting our stuff ready he went to take the trash, he got back and said get a carrier and some food and off we went. Captain was hiding in a dryer because dogs were trying to get him. He was so tiny and so dirty and smelly!!!! We didn't have to coax him too much because he was so hungry. We took him home put him in the spare room, and left him food and water, he ate and went back into the carrier and went to sleep. We went rafting and came back home. He was sleeping. I woke him up and started to give him a bath, he was so dirty, I would have never known he had any white on him. He had so much dirt, grease, and grime on him. I got through the layers of dirt and was so surprised to see he was a beauitful orange and white kitten. As I was washing him, I got to his feet, and screamed for my boyfriend to come and look. Captain had blood on him also, so looking at his feet I thought rats or dogs ate his toes off! As we got his feet clean, we realized Captain only had 2 toes on each foot!!! It was odd. He went to the vet got checked out and got his shots and we brought him home. He got healthy and loved the other cats. He loved to play and eat pasta! About 3 weeks after we found him Captain stopped walking. He would drag himself across the room. We took him to the vet, and they said they needed to take his leg, but didn't really say why, so we went to another vet. They xrayed him and said he had bones growing where there were supposed to be toes, but there weren't any toes for the bones to go. Captain had to go to a specialist up in Atlanta. They removed the extra bones and we got to bring him home. About a month later a bone started growing out the side of his paw, so he had another surgery. So now he had 2 toes on each foot except for his back left paw, which only has one toe. Captain has claws but they do not retract, so trimming his calws becomes a huge ordeal! He hates to have his feet touched, except for when he is in a cuddling mood, then I can rub his feet. He doesn't like to be picked up at all. He hops like a rabbit when he runs, and swaggers like John Wayne when he walks!!! He went through alot when he was a kitten, and had bad reactions to alot of medicine, and got really sick. But he is fine now, and is my beauitful baby boy!!! We call him our $3,000.00 dollar baby!!! I would have paid any amount to make him better, he is such a sweet boy, and I love him so much!!!

Captain is a little to heavy for his weak feet, so we are trying to slim him down. He doesn't run and play much because his feet give him problems. We are still finishing our house, so he has alot of hard wood to walk on, but we are going to get rugs just for him to give him some cushion for his feet. We put a piece of carpet in the bedroom, so he could walk around a little better. He doesn't realize he is a gimpy kitty, and doesn't complain too much!! We love him so much!!!
