Arrival Story:
Bella's about 14 years old now and has been living with me for two of them. I knew her, however, for about three years before she came to live with me. At that time she lived with my dear friend Deborah. Deborah is now the mother of two small children (one when B came to live with me), a full-time grad student, and working at least 1.5 full-time jobs at my last count. She also had three cats: Bella, Dolly, and Rocky. Bella was Deborah's first cat. She rescued her when B was barely a year old. B had been planned for the show scene, but was no longer 'desirable' and had spent six months shut in a pantry by herself. Being alone is one of the worst forms of torture for this breed of cat. Luckily, Deborah came along and B got bounteous love and human affection. A few years later, Deborah got Dolly (another Cornish Rex) to be a companion for Bella. Dolly was definitely the alpha of the pair, but with just the two of them, the relationship was amicable. Then came Rocky. Rocky was a kitten when he came to live with Deb. Dolly tortured him. He quickly realized that if he was to survive in the house, he had to side with Dolly and they started ganging up against B. I'm sure it all started as well-enough-meaning play, but teasing rapidly escalated since Bella wouldn't retaliate and soon her life was pretty miserable. With all the items on Deborah's plate, there was no way to devote enough time to the cats to turn things around. And now, Bella lives with me. I feel so deeply honored that Deborah trusted me with Bella. She's amazing and has changed my life for the better in every way possible and none of them ever imaginable.
